You said you were fine with them making dead child jokes and such every now and again to learn where the line is drawn, thereby giving you a better home court advantage. I quoted it directly earlier.
Get a grip man, how important is a god damn game?

And again...
quote:

Reedus said. quote: Just do what you do man. Do y'all cross the line some times? Yep. Do y'all need to get reigned in from time to time? Yep. But if that wasn't the case, you'd never know where that line is. Doesn't mean I like or approve of Katrina jokes or chanting a dead child's name, but I also realize that only represents .01% of what you guys do. Y'all otherwise make Mizzou Arena a hostile environment for opposing teams.

In fairness, it was most of the student section

Oh they will always be assholes and they want to be perceived as assholes, that's what makes it difficult because its sort of the whole point of that particular group. The question is: in what way can you razz, mock, and generally be an utter a-hole toward visiting teams without crossing lines that offend the home fans including families with young children. It can be done, but it would require a serious and lengthy sit down between the administration and the Antlers so both sides know exactly what to expect. Picking and choosing individual comments at every single game to evict them for is a recipe for ongoing disaster for all parties concerned.

To be honest, it seems like if the University wanted to actually work it out with the Antlers and find that middle ground, it would indeed be doing so behind closed doors. I kinda get the impression that this is being done in such a public manner because the decision has already been made that the Antlers need to get the boot once and for all, and this way the University can try to show a "they had three strikes, they're out" sort of progression to make it easier for alumni and fans to let go of the Antler tradition.

Poorly worded on my behalf then. It is not ok for them to make dead child or Katrina jokes. The point I was trying to make is that they are a group of kids whose very existence is to say and do shite that pisses people off. They are bound to, at some point, do and say shite that is not excusable. That doesn't make it ok, but I also don't want them to stop rustling jimmies. In an ideal world they could rustle jimmies without ever crossing the line. I just don't know if that's possible.

ETA - Just read ATL's post. He's puts it in much better words.

Foolish cock - I'm reading the quote by reedus you allude to and he says there in the quote it doesn't mean he likes or approves of Katrina jokes or chanting a dead child's name. I don't follow how you can say he's fine with it, he pretty much just told you he wasn't.

Doesn't it suck once you're old and you see the writing on the wall. If you were still a young and impressionable freshman in Columbia, you'd probably think the Antlers could win this one. Sucks for y'all, imo.

Wow for the kind of shite said on the rant everyday, surprised at the amount of jimmierustling the antlers have caused. You people are deceptively a bunch of prudes it seems.

I agree with this as well.

Classless mizzerites ... why should we be surprised? Are the mizzerite degenerates that loiter around here nothing more than a microcosm of the so-called antlers? Yes, yes they are.

Fair enough, i enjoy fricking with people as much as the next guy but at some point things cross the line and shouldn't be excused by any of us.

Why was it okay for the arena to play a rap song about rape as the Antlers got ejected?

And why was the band aloud to play frick You by Cee Lo that same night?

Why aren't these questions being asked… so stupid.

1. Post more, please.

2. Either boot or muzzle your loose cannon. That's the kind of self-policing the AD will appreciate, and it'll help smooth things over.

3. Recruit some creative J-School kids to help take the humor back up a notch. Some of the stuff on the list is far from funny. It gets in the competition's head most when your insults make everyone laugh at them. You need a SNL type makeover. Offensive =\= funny, and isn't especially intimidating either. Cracks about dead people, natural disasters or terminal illnesses are just classless, and I know the Antlers can do better.

4. Your group has a long history of creating a hostile environment and providing outrageous humor. Don't screw it up now. Many sins are forgiven when you can make people laugh. Get back to that. Y'all used to do research and find the perfect hilarious insult to use when opposing players were introduced. Focus on the funny.

5. Post more. Please. I'd bet your a good guy to have around when the BS starts flying.

This wasn't handled well by the AD, no question. It's in everyone's best interest to take a deep breath, work it out and move on. Quickly. Good luck!!

Agreed. Shouldn't be excused. My only point is I think it's bound to happen and when it does, it shouldn't go unpunished.

Final thought on this and I'm done with it (famous last words), I would suspect this shite goes on at every single university in the country. The only difference here is that this group of guys gave themselves a name.

I think that pretty much sums it up. It's all classless but they do some shite that makes you laugh, rustles jimmies and is creative but at other times it's like they just try too hard, are just unfunny, cross the line and wrong.

Can someone give us some examples of stuff that makes you laugh or is creative? Nothing I've seen here meets either criterion.

Of course not. The entire thread is about what they've done to get kicked out so of course that shite isn't going to be funny.

Which is why I was asking. The defense of them is that this stuff isn't a fair representative sample of what they do, so I'm curious as to what would be a good example.

I've seen those arguments over on PowerMizzou. The question about whether Blurred Lines is "about rape" or not is debatable and is in fact being debated. The guy who wrote the song has claimed he wrote it about his wife. If its about rape, its not overt. The song is not titled "raping is fun, everybody go rape somebody whee."

Katrina jokes directed toward a team from Louisiana leave zero room for interpretation or debate. That's the difference. I know the Antlers are saying that wasn't the comment they got evicted for, but its one that the University has compiled and has on record now in making its case.

Me personally, I'm not offended at all by sexual innuendo of any kind. Making fun of incidents in which people died is crossing the line in my book though, and pretty much everyone out there would agree. The Jeff Grayer incident back when it happened was disgusting. I don't know how the Antlers survived that, but they did, and presumably they toned that sort of stuff down for awhile. If they don't tone that part of it down this time, then they should go. If they do, I would want them to stay.

OK Mr Holier Than Thou Buckeye Fan - until you know the history of Mizzou & Kansas, keep this shite to yourself. The Mizzou & Kansas rivalry has nothing to do with sports & it goes back to before the Civil War. The rivalry has just spilled over into sports. We'll police the Antlers ourselves and it's already started.
