On a brighter note for UM, I just passed the UM ROTC cadets on Hwy 7 south of Oxford running the game ball to Calhoun City for the handoff to MSU.

Volunteering time over a holiday break to run 40 miles in 30 degree weather, pretty cool.

Has anyone ever been to the handoff in Calhoun City? Thought it might be cool to go to with kids today, but not sure what time or what it looks like. I saw a flyer for it last week, should've snapped a pic for the details.

Flyer said 5th annual. Calhoun City was midway point and handover point.

It had a link to an ignite site for donations and more info, but I didn't write it down. I'm going to have to track it down now to figure out where to be.

Is MSU on break, too? I was surprised there'd be enough UM students who stayed back to run.

5th? Wow i thought it had been going on longer than that.

It is the ROTC programs from both schools. I have always thought it is a pretty cool thing.

The Egg Bowl run is one of our newest tradition we have within the ROTC program starting about five years ago. We get a football signed by Head Coach Dan Mullen and our Professor of Military Science (PMS), and we run from Calhoun City to Palmiero Center. We will meet with Ole Miss Army ROTC Cadets at the gazebo in Calhoun City where they will pass the ball to MSU so that we can run it back to Mississippi State. The ball travels approximately 100 miles with MSU Cadets running about 60 miles and the Ole Miss Cadets running about 40 miles. This is a great way for all of the Cadets, including the rival school, to get together and further build team work between each other. We would love to see everyone on the side lines cheering us on as we make this long journey!

Lol... rivalries and their propaganda. Can't agree on schit.

UM-MSU Egg Bowl Run
quote:

In 2013, a new tradition was born when members of the University of Mississippi and Mississippi State University Military Science and Leadership organizations participated in a run to bring the Egg Bowl official game ball to Oxford from Starkville. The daunting 80-plus-mile run is no easy task. As the tradition has grown, more members have become eager to participate in the more than 12 legs of the run. This year, on Monday, Nov. 20, Ole Miss members will run the game ball on its first leg from Ole Miss to Calhoun City, where it will be carried around the town's square pavilion. Then, MSU members will run the ball to Starkville, where it will be presented to Head Football Coach Dan Mullen.

But, I imagine there is a bit more rolling terrain moving north into Lafayette County. Either way, found the link. Going to try and grab the kids to get to Calhoun City for handoff. Radio is saying about 1130 in the square.

Good on both schools.

Used to run by the ROTC building once a month; to pick up my check.
