Todd Gurley was a freshman as well. Only time he played Bama.

That's how I felt when I clicked on this thread. I thought it was a stupid stat. So I followed it up with something dumb.

Why Gus went away from the read option, I’ll never know.

Because defensive coordinators learned to disguise the DE/LB crash that QB's were reading. That and the edge players have evolved to guys that have the ability disengage the back and redirect to the QB on the keeper.

In in turn has evolved into the RPO...

That 2014 Alabama defense was terrible.

They had the #2 rushing defense in the country and were top 5 in scoring defense.

Shouldn't be a stretch for someone from Tater Town.

Hey, here's an idea. For once, JUST ONCE, can't you let the little guy enjoy something? You know you were pulling for us on Saturday.

You're just mad the we scored more points than you did the last time your team played bama....

Only an a-hole would post something like that.

Oh really? The last time we had a true dual threat qb, tell me how many points and yds we had against bama. I use bama, because they are consistently top 10 defense. Look up the stats for that 2014 bama defense.

Oh, I wasn't trying to throw you guys shade. Of all the teams in the west, you guys are the ones I pull for.

I was just trying to say that college offenses have moved away from a straight read option game for the reasons I stated above. Particularly with programs like Alabama (and most SEC schools) that have freakish edge rushers that have the ability to diagnose a play quickly and redirect themselves. It's why the RPO has gained popularity because it takes the same read and moves the mesh point down the field where the athletes ability to recover from a mistake is minimized.

I think the thing with Gus’s offense that was such a great read option was the moving parts. It really takes that edge rusher out of the game, he crashes and the qb is going around the edge. He hits the edge and the rb is hitting the hole. Nick Marshall ran it flawlessly and had bama’s elite linebackers all messed up. We rushed for almost 300 yds in ‘13 and almost 200 yds in ‘14.

Hell y'all scored more than Loseranna St8 has scored in their last 3 games against BAMA combined (0,10,0).

Wow. A real FOOTBALL discussion on tRant. What alternate universe are we in?

With "lesser athletes" or at least fewer scholarships, this is what most FCS triple option school are trying to accomplish. All it takes is for 1 defensive guy to make a mistake (as so eloquently eluded to by a previous bama poster in this thread)....

It scared Saban, he was so shook that he was calling for the HUNH to be banned( even though he runs it now). He’s a pretty crafty guy, but Gus with a true dual threat is a nightmare for teams, because he actually had highly talented players. It really makes me sad that Gus can’t figure out how good his offense was when he was running the HUNH. Sorry, I made this about bama and auburn and it shouldn’t have been, but their defense is always elite.

Guz couldn't send any QB's that had been booted from another college due to stealing

Gurley's was a garbage 75 yard run in the 4th quarter with the game on ice.

I wouldn't consider that as impactful as Dante's.
