Some of the marquee OOC matchups will slowly die off the schedule since teams will want to ensure their record gets them in the playoff and they'll assume those marquee matchups will happen in the CFP.

Example:

The next 4 years of OOC for Texas is home-and-home against Michigan and Ohio State.

We also had home-and-homes against Georgia and Florida on the books after that (which were cancelled once we moved to the SEC).

Setting aside the "why schedule them vs. cupcakes?" arguments, I LOVE watching some of these classic early season big name matchups between college blue bloods/dynasties/powerhouses that we otherwise wouldn't see until maybe the bowl games.

I think we're going to lose some/most of that in favor of "easiest schedule we can get to ensure a record that gets us into the 12-team field...we'll get the big name matchups then."

A 12-team playoff field is obviously better in the sense that there's a lot less controversy and teams getting left out, but it does come at a cost - and this is one of those costs.

disagree....if anything it makes scheduling tougher teams more important.

in the 4 team playoff we see that losing to UT is going to keep bama out, but in a 12 team scenario they have made themselves the first team not getting a bye. It was a quality loss

12 team playoff is an abomination. The shenanigans of today is what makes college football unique and fun. Regarding your point about scheduling OOC, that applies to both 4 and 12 team fields so I don’t really get your point. But if we want to address that issue, just expand to 6 teams and give all Power 5 champions automatic invites, and then one at large. Granted, that made a lot more sense when P5 was a thing.

Instead of playing Michigan and OSU at the beginning of the year you will get to play them at the end of the year in the playoffs. Washes out.

But you are correct in the fact it will affect regular season schedules. That could be handled by instituting some rules of making it mandatory to schedule ooc P5 opponents in 1-2 games. And make it a requirement for everyone to do it.

Disagree. Look at Michigan. They played no one OOC. Will be number 1 seed.

In the future you can afford a loss or two and make the playoff.
