Always a chance. Realistically no. And TBH I don't think we do personally either. Though Jones did take an top 10 OU team down to the final play at Cincy - a Cincy team that finished around 3-8, IIRC. It was a Cincy team for sure just don't remember which year.

All signs point to no but there's always a chance and yes, I say that about every matchup for every team.

A few things...

1. Regarding our run game - We've ran straight up the gut both games for no apparent reason. Last year's oline was very good (til the season/lack of depth took its toll) but they were lousy a run blocking - fantastic at pass protection but not very good at Run blocking. Yet we had a 1000 yard rusher and the run game was much improved. We did that by attacking the edge but so far we haven't seen that. I can't imagine our coaches forgot this move so I hope/think/pray we've been keeping it vanilla and testing our RBs in terms of the hard yards.

2. Our defense as a whole is underrated, especially the secondary - Cam Sutton is a playmaker but there are others as well even on the DL. The speed on D should keep teams on their toes even though the interior DL is soft. Speed and overall play is night and day and no, we couldn't push lesser teams around last year let alone play with discipline. The entire D minus Cam an AJ (who is having a breakout year, strange as that sounds) was sloppy and embarrassing no matter who we faced - just awful no matter who it was and not all cupcakes are created equal. OU will make plays but I do hope we will too. In fact, I expect our Secondary to be good even in that game.

3. Skills upgrades are legit - Simply put, we're a better team across the board. Even Worley is surprising - he couldn't pass on South Alabama last year.

4. Oline is a wreck but we're reshuffling this game - Ironically, true frosh Jashon Robertson (RG) looks good by any standard and if he keeps it up he'll be a force throughout his career. We're also back to playing true frosh Coleman Thomas at RT. Thomas held that spot throughout spring and fall camp only to get bumbed out as the coaches kept tweaking in favor of older guys. I honestly think that the idea of playing a true frosh at RG AND RT was too much but through the past two game the right side has held, mainly due to Robertson and Kerbyson (RT) but the left side has bee awful.

So we're moving Kerbyson to LT (a solid and versatile player) and bringing Thomas in for RT. That will be two true frosh on the right side but if Rashon can provide help for Coleman and they've got the talent then they've got the talent.

5. The number to remember is 47%. - THAT is how many Vols will take their first road trip.

The talent is there outside of the oline but it's so raw and/or green it's just amazing. It also lacks depth at key positions. If we had a proven oline I'd feel better about making this a game even if they were only mediocre. In tome ways we match up great but we just don't have the horse, imo.

I hope so but it is doubtful.

The OU offense made the adjustments since establishing Knight as the starting QB over the Blake Bell offense, so the point is moot.

Well they had established Knight as the starter before the Kansas St. game last year and then he got benched against OK St. last year and Bell came in and won the game for them. Knight was terrible in the Spring game and really hasn't shown me anything this year that makes him seem like he's going to be a special quarterback.

That's when they had a TE pretending to be QB. Now they have a real quarterback at the helm.

I should bump all the threads from last year asking this same question only with UO instead of OU.
