You forget that the SEC started conference championship games. We're known for changing the college football landscape.

The only rivalries that the SEC care about keeping are:
IB
3rd Sat in Oct
CP
ORITS
LSU vs Fla

By going to the pod system all rivalries will stay in tact

I say send the arrogant Texas AM Aggies, who are not part of the Southeastern Conference history, back to the bush league conference they came from. I bet some State fans will Amen that.

8 team divisions. NC St and VT to the East, Mizzou to the West.

Amen to this.

At least on the part of Mizzou I'd guarantee an average 3 conference losses every year. But we'd have a legitimate shot at the rest. And who knows, every so often we might have a aTm year every do often.

you alabama and missouri frickers seem hell bent on putting MU into the LSU pod instead of Ole Miss... works much better balance wise if you have:

SW:
LSU (Florida)
A&M (Va Tech)
Arky (Missouri)
Ole Miss (MSU)

NW:
Alabama (Tenn)
Auburn (UGA)
Missouri (arky)
MSU (Ole Miss)

If Auburn wasn't shitting the bed this year, Alabama's pod wouldn't seem so weak.

Been saying for a while now the pods need to be balanced with the 4 traditional bottom feeders separated and the 4 schools with the most potential going forward separated.

Alabama, Auburn, Missouri, Miss St

LSU, A&M, Arkansas, Ole Miss

UGA, Tennessee, Va Tech, Vandy

Florida, S Carolina, NC St, Kentucky

Alabama----Texas A&M---Tennessee.........Vanderbilt
Auburn------Arkansas------Georgia..............Virginia Tech
Ole Miss----LSU-------------Florida................Kentucky
Miss State--Mizzou---------South Carolina....NC State

Each column is a pod, and every row is a set of permanent rivals...

Thoughts? I know the north pod (last one) is pretty weak and the east one (second to last) is pretty stout, but I tried to even as much out with permanent rivals as possible. Keeps most rivalries intact.

ETA: Fixed. Had Bama/UT paired originally, but lost it when I shuffled some other stuff around

All the key rivalries stay intact

And to further expound on that, every two years you pair up two pods with each other and set up a home/home. Schedule would look like this:

3 Pod opponents
4 Division opponents
2 Rival opponents

Rotate the pod alignment every two years, so that

a) Every team plays every team twice in six years
b) Ony one SEC championship game is needed, no semifinals

As long as one permanent opponent from another pod is kept it isn't necessary to group all the traditional opponents together. For instance Bama need only be grouped with Auburn OR Tenn. whichever isn't in the same pod is a constant cross pod rival. Same with UGA. Group them with Tenn. and give them UF as a cross pod annual. Ole Miss and Miss St can be split and play as cross pod constants also.

That screws UGA out of two rivalry games from Auburn, Florida, and South Carolina.

Auburn and Mizzou in the same division is dumb

UGA vs S Carolina is no more of a rivalry than a dozen other games. UGA vs Auburn is, and can either be dealt with by going to a 9 game conference schedule and having 2 constants or giving it preference over UT on their schedule.

Geography needs to take a back seat to competitive balance. The teams should be seeded 1-16 and divided up as equitably as possible. The bottom 4 seeds and the top 4 seeds need to be separated. Rivalries need to be kept in mind but not be the deciding factor when forming the pods.

I agree with this. I would rather pull OK and OK ST or something and let Bama and Auburn go to the east. The only reason LSU fans would like it is they would have free reign over the west if they had let Missou and aTm both in the west.
You know, while there is some merit to this, I don't necessarily say anyone has free reign over a division with Oklahoma in it. Just saying, that would be a big game
