Does SOS and being "tested" really matter?

I'm not sure it does. If it did Michigan wouldn't have won that NC.

Most people have no idea how lucky a team has to be to win a National Title.

It doesn't matter in terms of if your team is good or not.
It just means unproven. Could be good, but an average team could have done the same thing so who knows.
And generally, that doesn't even mean anything anymore with so many playoff spots.
So it's pretty much meaningless everywhere except among fan types trying to compare and get some kind of sense on how good teams really are/aren't.

Michigan, Ohio State, Indiana.
SEC fans complained about being tested every week right up until the vagina award was handed out.
I think the same happened one of Clemson's years, too.

No, it doesn’t. I see being in the SEC as a detriment because of the nine game schedule

Having the best loss is very important. SOS absolutely matters, very much so.

SoS doesn't make a team better or worse, but it certainly helps a coaching staff when they only have to truly lock in and make sure the team is peaking for 2-3 games out of the year instead of 5-6.

Being battle-tested is an advantage. BAMA came out of the toughest division and the toughest conference in college football. BAMA went to the 4-team playoff 8 times in the 10-year history.
What has happened in the last few years isn't suddenly an indictment of SOS, the top of the SEC has been down. NIL is a part of that, but not all. This season looks much better for the top teams.
