Actually loved that rant by Pappy O’Daniel.

I think Landry is more of a Homer Stokes.

Jesus how does one go from getting rejected from attending LSU and then somehow manage to become governor of the state?

He does realize coaches can tell LSU to frick off and go make their guaranteed money elsewhere? I appreciate his sentiment, but it reminds me of Dabo and NIL/ Transfer Portal.

Up to this point, the market for big buyouts have favored the coaches and their agents. But I guarantee you, any AD worth their salt listened to what Landry said about the big buyouts and agreed with him. Until a CBA hits college football, schools are going to need every dollar they can save to pay athletes, continue to pay coaches AND maintain and upgrade facilities. This is very hard to do when there is a coaching transition and the school has to come up with $80+ MM to buyout the HC and their staff. Sure, donors can help but you'd rather have that donor's money going to the program, not helping pay coaches who aren't even there anymore.

I think the big buyouts will soon be a thing of the past in coaching salaries. The question is, which big school is going to be first to do it and still get a good coach. Once it happens ONE TIME, the market quickly changes to it.

Hes basically admitting LSU cant compete financially with the big dogs.

What is crazy is that it can. It is sixth in athletic revenue for public universities and finished ahead of UF and PSU in the 2024 fiscal year (though to be fair that figure doesn’t count foundations).

It is more of the type of fit that people throw on sports talk radio about the $25 million a year NFL player who is sitting out a month because of a hamstring.
