The SEC has a $3 billion, 10-year deal with ESPN (2024–2034, ~$300M/year).
Critically, unlike the ACC, Big Ten, and Big 12, the SEC has no grant-of-rights agreement binding member schools' media rights to the conference.
That means if LSU were expelled, its media rights revert to the school, not remain with the SEC. ESPN's contract is with the SEC as a 16-member entity; losing a top-10 brand like LSU would reduce the conference's valuation and could give ESPN grounds to renegotiate or walk.

LSU wouldn't take just 1/16 of ESPN money, they would get a proportional to market share piece.

Meh, ESPN would gladly give a little to stay in good standing with the SEC.
Plus, lawyers will handle all of that.

The SEC has a shity deal with ESPN, so they would never walk even if LSU left.
