Coaches son and fantastic recruiter who has worked for and was highly thought of by Dabo Swinney, Nick Saban, and Jimbo Fisher.

Didn't Dabo fire him fairly quickly after he hired him on his first staff as OC?

Arguably:

Dan Lanning - grad asst. Bama / 4 years under Kirby and DC since 2019.

Marcus Freeman - very respected - young super bright mind - DC Year and Broyles 2020 Finalist Cincinnati - Nationally ranked D at Cincy - Almost took LSU DC job and passed to go to Notre Dame

That's 2 fresh of top of my head.

I don't understand, you question Napier and then suggest two people with lesser credentials?

Yes, I feel like that was part of Saban's hesitancy to give him OC after Kiffin left.

I think he had a lot of support in the building, but Locksley got the nod.

ETA:

And that's when (maybe why) Napier left Alabama to take the OC position at Arizona State.

No hire is a guarantee. You take a chance no matter what you do.

We feel Napier is ready to lead the program.

He created a winning culture. His team played downhill. I think he has a great shot at succeeding. Novel schemes get figured out. Saban’s schemes evolved, but the process he established kept things rolling.

Why would someone think he won’t? Established winners at P5 who are willing to leave are very few. And even those are not a slam dunk at another school.

Didn't Dabo keep most of the staff already established when he was promoted to the head job? I know Napier was already there and when he got elevated to OC was either the youngest or one of the youngest playcallers at the time in FBS. Have heard different accounts as to why he was let go, some suggest he was the scapegoat during Dabo's early struggles.

Good point. Honestly, I think he will do well.

BN, called the plays from the booth, Dabo, was changing his play on the field.

Rumor has it that after that game there was a confrontation between the two coaches and Billie Boy punched Dabo out...

The box said "Up-n-comer who is cheap and could be the next Urban".

Urban was a lucky break. I doubt Napier will match the high water marks of Mullen or even Boom.

So Arkansas went through how many HCs before they finally got one who have never been a HC at the college level. Florida will be fine.

One thing about Napier was it wasn't just one year. 32 wins in 3 years with 2 bowl wins (not coaching in this year's bowl) is pretty consistently good.

His predecessor at ULL, first 4 seasons were 9 wins seasons, with 4 bowl victories.

I like the hire but it is risky. If he is good at least Bama will have to deal with him after the new divisions are set up.
