He was a 5 year senior I think. That's what makes it so bizarre.

He'd signed a HIPPA release. Any injury that occurred to him whilst playing football for The University of Tennessee was covered.

I'm pretty sure he signed away all his rights to confidentiality when he signed his scholarship papers.

The failed test occurred last week before the game from what I understand.

Believe me: None of us wants to commit a "HIPPY" violation!

That's a really dumb response.

Funny thing about HIPPA-- and this is totally OFF the subject-- is that it was passed when ALL of the following were true:.....
1) The Clintons wanted to socialize medicine. Bill and Hillary really wanted to do it way back in 1992, but they settled for HIPPA. (It was a different world then. Common Sense still was The Norm and "liberal" was a dirty word, believe it or no).
2) AIDS was a death sentence. Magic Johnson wouldn't be HIV Positive for another 5 or 7 years. Everyone who got HIV got AIDS and died.
2b) A lot of people were still thinking that AIDS was going to render the species Homo sapiens extinct. Sounds crazy now, of course, but no one was certain then, believe it or not.
3) A whole lot of Americans of voting age still believed that the only two ways one could get HIV were by being homosexual and/or utilizing intravenous drugs.
HIPPA was, first, foremost, and ultimately,...
...a VERY WEAK commpromise to what Clinton wanted from the world,...
...AND...
...aimed at protecting homesexual men from being publicly identified.
What's ironic (I guess) is that we now live in a setting wherein: 1) We all know that being HIV Positive doesn't mean you're homosexual, and 2) none of us really care what sex you dig.
...But we're still having to shred papers and tell people, "I'm sorry, Ma'am. If you don't know her birthdate and social security number then I can't tell you if she's dead or not, or whether she's in this hospital, and/or whether there is a room number to tell you, and/or anything else, ma'am..."
It's all really and kinda pitiful, after all these years.

the part that is questionable to me is how those blood tests got back to the coach/school. do athletes have to sign HIPAA release forms with the schools to disclose any and all medical records?
I feel certain they sign a waiver for random drug tests.

I heard he failed a drug test before the ATM game but they played him anyway. He and Will Grier are best buds.

Jones is hard pressed for scholarships, since his practice has been to sign 35 kids a year. After the injury left Danny likely unable to play the rest of the year, Jones cut him and awarded his scholarship to one of the 10 over-signees from the 2014 recruiting class.

Eh, but with the absolute rise of identity theft, and people still finding everything they need via most medical documentation, if that information wasn't safe guarded the way it is now we've have an even large problem than we already do.
