When I take my dog to the vet, I always look on the receipt and see that they did something to his anal glands. First, what are they doing to my dog's a-hole, and second, why is it free of charge?

Anal glands don't get emptied sometimes. Impacted anal glands can cause infection. If you see your dog scooting their butt on the ground this is probably the reason. This may be your dogs diet, so talk to your vet.
