It's a fake competition for charity and that bar's own books/workers. I don't think they care about being lame or it being fair.

Who cares. A lot of money goes to charity. If it’s because of corporate purchases, so be it. The charitable donation is the only thing that matters

Scam? It was/is a Genius marketing campaign by a business that has been extremely successful. Not mention they donate to the food banks.
