and North Carolina and others. 6-10 shot blocker and rebounder who was the starter in the middle for UConn's 2011 national title team. Granted UK is piling up their own talent down low with Noel and company but they need as many warm bodies as can get and it doesn't appear as if his offer was pulled by Calipari or anything. Mizzou is still chasing All-American Devonta Pollard as well and if he comes he'd be joining our lineup next year with Oriakhi, former Auburn leading scorer Earnest Ross, former Pepperdine leading scorer Keion Bell, McD's All-American Jabari Brown, our former second leading scorer and leading shot blocker Laurence Bowers coming back from injury, and returning key backcourt guys Phil Pressey and Mike Dixon. On paper, that is a great deal of talent that could push Mizzou back up to a three horse race with Kentucky and Florida in its first year of SEC hoops.
I know the move was made for football and all, but hoops was my first love and I CANNOT CANNOT CANNOT wait for Kentucky's first visit to Columbia, Missouri...place is gonna be so electric and we know how absurdly talented UK will be again...man I'm happy to be in this league.

Haters gonna hate. Kid was a starter on a national title team and had offers from Kentucky, Duke and UNC right now that speaks for itself. His stats went down this year cuz UConn brought in the top center prospect in last year's high school class, a one and done type guy, and at any rate UConn was a chemistryless wreck this year.
I would think a guy with a ku icon could appreciate what can happen when a talented player like say T-Rob finally gets a chance to shine on his own down low rather than splitting time??
PS - I thought the SEC and Mizzou were irrelevant to you now and all. "Don't give a flip" I believe was Self's phrase? Guess that wasn't entirely accurate. Thanks for your continued interest in Missouri and SEC athletics.

I think Andre Drummond had something to do with that.
Avg 9 and 8 during their national title run.

He was pretty well holding out to see if Noel committed to Kentucky IMO. Wanted to be somewhere thin enough in the post to get majority of the minutes. We don't get Noel and we probably have him at this point.

Awesome news! I was at happy hour when the news was sent to my phone. We did shots!

Makes me very excited for next year. Pressey, Dixon, Bowers, Brown, Ross, Bell, Oriakhi, Webster-Chan, etc. Shaping up to look pretty good!

BluegrassBelle - that's a standard Kentucky answer. However you may want to remember too that Oriakhi's best friend is our starting point guard Phil Pressey, they were AAU teammates and lived together at one point and talk daily. I know the UK line with him and any other recruit is always that you coulda had him if you wanted him but I would not discount the Pressey-Oriakhi connection on this one at all. I think we would have gotten him straight up even if Noel had not signed with you.

semotruman - it's looking solid but of course the question is can we even come close to the magic chemistry that this year's team had. We had a lot of talent two years ago but they never really learned to play together and find the right roles. We shall see.
That said, I really want to close the deal on Pollard too. I think it will be between us and yet another SEC team (Alabama) on that one. Sign him and we may get to a tipping point where even if the chemistry doesn't develop all that well, there will still be so much talent in the lineup that they will wind up winning a great deal anyway.

This should be our deepest team since '09 maybe even deeper. If we get Pollard we should start the season in the top 10.

Why is it standard? The kid, deservedly so, wants maximum PT. He said as much, and it was reported as that, in his sit down with Cal.
No need to be so insecure about your team. He's a good ball player, but with Noel and probably Bennett he wasn't going to get max minutes. Just part of it.

Belle - no insecurity, but just read your last post. You're still coming from the angle that all other things being equal, if Noel and Bennett were assured of not coming then you pretty much are certain Orikhi woulda have signed with you. All I'm saying is I don't think that would be the case in this instance, due admittedly to blind luck on our part in that our point guard is BFFs forever with Oriakhi, and they developed a lot of chemistry playing together as well. I just think from Oriakhi's quotes and how he's been talking that he was probably gonna go hang out with his buddy for his senior year so long as the PT opportunity at that program was at least adequate. But we'll never know for sure I guess.
From new KC Star article:
“This is where I wanted to go from the beginning,” said Oriakhi, a 6-foot-9, 240-pound center. “It was just a matter of me visiting.”

Which is why I said its just my opinion give everything that came from Lexington after his visit? It's cool though.
I do have to say that the assertion by you and some of your fellow fans that you'll be an auto #3 in the SEC isn't necessarily correct. Playing on the road in the SEC doesn't get it's due credit and a couple teams like Bama and Arkansas may have something to say about that.

So he took those other visits for his health?

Thomas Robinson and Marcus Morris was just asking us to return the favor. Unfortunately we don't have the player harrassment prowess that Mizzou fans have and couldn't get his phone number instead.
