btw... It is Chris Petersen not Peterson.
I was in Jackson last year when it was highly rumored that Petersen would become the new head coach at Miss State. My "State" friends weren’t happy about it at all, though they admitted that they didn’t know a whole lot about him - they quickly got on the internet to look up his bio. I don’t remember what really happened with him, but obviously it never materialized.

Maybe he decided to hold out for the LSU job knowing that it would become available in a couple of years...wishful thinking

He would have a tough time recruiting in the South. He could never relate to players down here.
Joe Glenn won Division 1A at Montana twice. He was hired at Wyoming and couldn't win at Division 1 and was fired last year.
These smaller school coaches find special players they can relate to and motivate. Peterson will usually win the big game, but they can't win consistantly against big schools. Hawkins is proving it right now at Colorado.
Could you imagine if Miles pulled in the type of recruiting class the Boise St. reels in every year. He would be fired the day after NSD.
Myers is a successful recruiter because he came from Notre Dame. That is, or was, the most intense and sophisticated recruiting system in college football. I spent some time with DiNardo when he was at LSU. He used the ND model to recruit here.
I think Kelly will fail because he won't be able to recruit as well as needed at ND.

I'm a big Petersen fan. He's a good coach who has put together a great team. They look good, pretty solid fundamentals and they are fun to watch.
But I'd be wary about bringing him here. Can he recruit in the south? Big unknown. Track record of coaches coming out of there isn't stellar, either. Plus, can his scheme survive the SEC week in and week out, year in and year out? Is he gonna get solved like Chavis does? Unknown. Boise looks great against who they play. But could he pull that off at LSU again Florida, Bama, etc? Who knows.

FWiw Petersen is a bigtime Scientologist. This may be a big part as to why he hasn't had any feelers from southern schools. Not that it matters to me but there are some boosters who take religion very seriously. Also can you imagine him on a recruiting trip in the deep south where somebodys mamma asks him to say grace and he starts to vibe about Xenu the alien and the great Tom Cruise?

I know VA Tech isn't the SEC, but if they go to DC and beat Tyrod and Ryan Williams and the other back they have, then I will be sold for sure. VA Tech always has a good D. I know we beat the shite out of them, but that was the best game we played in a long time and also VA Tech was coming off of the school shooting, so I am sure that had something to do with it as well.

not sure, the concern i would have is how hawkins is doing at colorado.
People who say this really don't understand Colorado.
It's among the hardest jobs in all Division 1-A. Hawkins is a fine coach, but CU has so many issues when it comes to football that Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, and whoever else would have a damn hard time competing there on any consistent basis.
Don't let what happens at Colorado detract from what Petersen can do.

This is what I have heard as well. I don't even think and Pac 10 schools have shown him any serious interest because of it. Scientology, first and foremost, is a cult. It could become a PR nightmare at a big program.

Our AD tried to get him after we gave Crooms the boot.

I think he would be good in the sec but his first year would be shaky when he finds out that all his trick plays won't work every game. Sorta like Meyer in his first year at Florida.

Well we have CLM for the foreseeable future so I guess we get to see if Peterson can maintain. I wish he would get a shot at the big game.
