we get it, you think Meyer is better.

do you think Larry Coker is better than all coaches that hadn't won a NC?

O.K. Let me put this in a perspective that maybe you can see what all of us see. Imagine if they had brougth Sylvester Croom in after we forced him out. And Auburn ends in the same place it is now. See what is so unbelievable about it?

Jeez, it's happened before.

Hell at least two other coaches from Iowa State have done it before - Johnny Majors and Earle Bruce.

Both of them started terribly at Iowa State...just like every other coach who takes that job.

Mack Brown started 2-20 at UNC
Frank Beamer started 5-17 at Virginia Tech
Bill Snyder started 6-16 at Kansas St

On the flip side of that coin:

Larry Coker started 30-1 at Miami
Terry Bowden started 20-0 at Auburn
Jackie Sherrill started 50-9 at Pitt

Moral of the story: you can't always judge the quality of the coach by the record of the team he inherits. Coaching at the major collegiate level is a very tough gig with all kinds of variables. Ultimately, you have to judge coaches by their LIFETIME body of work, or at the very least more than a three year window.

I know that's difficult for all of you nitwits in the ADD generation who have the attention span of a circus monkey on crack, but that's the way it is.

FYI, if you post less, you'll look less ignorant.

How much talent did he have to replace?
Since you are the king of ISU knowledge... what did his 2-deep look like?
Isn't that why saban only won 6 games his first year? Talent was terrible?

If McCarney was such a BA, why did he get canned?

Why was Chizik given an extension if he was about to get fired?

Basing a 2 year career at a school that has won 8+ games 7 times in their entire history is ignorant.

Proof?

So Mac Brown is a terrible coach then?
1st 2 years at UNC totaled 2 wins & 20 losses.

So Johnny Majors was a terrible coach then?
1st 2 years at ISU totaled 3 wins & 14 losses.

So Gene Stallings was a terrible coach then?
1st 2 years at TAM totaled 7 wins & 12 losses. In his 7 seasons there, 4 of them inlcuded 3 wins or less.

So Bill McCartney was a terrible coach then?
1st 3 years at Coloroado totaled 7 wins & 25 losses.

And on the flip side, Larry Coker must be a fricking awesome coach then?
1st 2 years at Miami totaled 24 wins & 1 loss.

etc
etc
etc

Basically, you fail at math. Using a 2 year window to base your opinion on for ANY coach is fricking incredibly ignorant.
Learn statistics, fricktard.

but as much as i hate it, saban is probably the best coach in the SEC in the past 25 years

I think Saban is the best recruiter in the country. He beats you because he out talents you. I have not watched many of his games where I came away thinking he out coached someone. But I have seen him get out coached on several occasions (twice by Auburn). If he was a super coach they would never lose to La Monroe, Utah, South Carolina, or UAB.

He was set up to fail at Iowa State. I have no idea why he ever took that job.

You don't know much about football then. I like how when saban wins, which is much more often than not, its because of the talent on his team but when he loses, its because he was outcoached. No offense, but your logic is fricking stupid.

Hahah.. I was just messing around with you.

I could care less. That wasn't the point of my post.

The point was, with as fickle as college football is (coaching changes, players leaving early, players getting kicked out, injuries, schedule, etc), basing your opinion on a coach based on a 2 year window is beyond retarded.

I agree. I honestly have never thought too much into chiziks record at ISU. That's a barren wasteland as far as recruiting goes.
