UT can find a successful coach from a smaller school and give him a shot. Like MacIntyre from SJSU. He is way more qualified than Dooley was.

It doesn't have to be a big name coach.

Well, that was fairly easy to find. About 148 comments. This is the first one that stood out to me ...

quote:

If charlie strong is hired it will be because he is black. cut and dried. And i will burn all my tennessee gear and become gator fan. There are much better coaches out there to be had than charlie. Hart is caving in to b.c.a.

There are not 70% bad posts nor 70% racist posts, but I can see where that might be handed to Charlie and he might say, "oh no, I'm not going there."

Here's the column from John Adams and the comments section in question underneath:

And here is the latest on Strong turning down the job and who might be next:

This is a gut check for Vols fans. You say you "would have jumper off a bridge" if Tennessee hired Malzahn and that's fine but you're experiencing the alternative right now. Your school has been rejected by every coach you've offered, including Gruden's goofy arse who strung you along like a crack whore. Climb off your high horse and step down to reality

First of all, this guy was in the 5 percentile of those that thought the Gruden shite was completely retarded. I never once thought that crap was going to happen. There's no high horse, but I'm sorry, someone like gus is not what UT needs. It may work for auburn. Good luck. My rant was in regards to the continuos flaming by Arkansas posters and i don't get it. Their program has never contributed to the success of the SEC and after what they've been through last year, they have no room to talk about dumpsters and fires.

It wasn't race. There use to be a very clear difference in pay grade for HC's at places like Louisville and big time programs like UT.

But that's not really an issue anymore. If you are Strong what is to gain by taking the UT job if not money?

Got some of that clarified. Evidently there were over 200 comments in that article and, after quite a few of them were removed, it was knocked-back to 148 comments. If there were fifty-something comments that had to be removed, I can only imagine what some of those comments must have been. You can still catch a few of them in various quoted replies, but still, they must have had to remove quite a few of them and it would not surprise me if many of them were by fans masquerading as Vol fans.

In the meantime, reading some of the 200+ comments under that other article about Charlie Strong turning down the job - some of those are pretty funny and worth reading for a laugh.

Fair enough I think Auburn hired Gus to avoid what you guys are currently going thru and we'll see how that pays off in the end.

Tennessee and Auburn have different expectations than Arkansas. We expect our coaches to win NC's or at least Conference Championships. These expectations are what makes it difficult to find the right hire.

And you know what, hiring gus may be the thing to get the offense back on track. UT has really dug themselves a hole and I can't sit here and honestly say who would be "acceptable" because we won't know until 2 years down the road if it was a good hire. Strong was at the top of my list in realistic candidates from day 1 because of his defensive background. Now, i'm just going to sit back and not worry about it.

I think parity is kicking in and coaches like Strong and Franklin realize they can be successful and well-compensated without the stress, demands, and expectations coaching at schools like Tennessee and Auburn brings

There's no quick fix for either one of our schools. We just have to hope what's left is salvageable

There really isn't. We sure did pick a shitty time to go into a coma.

And seriously, on the record, that Gruden crap made me ill and I cringe just thinking about it. It was soooo stupid. The program is already a joke. No need to grow more troll food.

Mike Hamilton is the one to lay all the blame on imho. He's the prick that got y'all in this serious bind.

Dave Hart will dig y'all out of it if your fans give him time and patience. He started this thing behind the 8 ball.

Better Gruden than BMFP

And it's starting to look like Dave Hart may be in over his head. Tennessee may have to go the Michigan route and get a business CEO to come in and turn things around

I can't begin to decribe my animosity towards mike hamiton. He is the reason EVERYTHING is in the shitter. The jury is out on Hart. It's not looking good so far, but we'll see what he can do the next few days/weeks. His job is going to depend on this hire and it's outcome.

Yep, you're right. For AD's it's all about building improvements and hires and one feeds off the other.

Hamilton failed badly at both, which led to fiscal issues as well. It's going to take some time to recover from that guy's incompetence. Some of that needs to be laid on the President's doorstep for hiring him and keeping him around as long as y'all did. I know he was a good fundraiser and all that, but he surely sucked as an AD.

Tennessee can and will recover. You're probably just in a decade of transition right now. Firing Delmonico (was that his name) as the baseball coach was bad. Then Pat Head Summitt retires due to health reasons. Phat Phil goes off the deep end eating and not giving a shite. Lane Kiffin comes in and makes things worse. Then Hamilton hires Dooley? WTF? He should have been fired after the Kiffin hire and before he could hire Dooley.

Don't forget giving him a $5 million buyout. What the hell sense does that make?

Tennessee baseball was never anything and firing Delmonico was stupid. UT will never be as good as they were with him as coach. It's just not a supported sport. Bruce Pearl was obviously a great hire until he went full BBQ and lied about it. However, football obviously drives the bus and there's just so many fails on so many levels.
