It is hard to believe that a 3:30 big ten game would outdraw an SEC game during that same time slot by such a wide margin that CBS did not even bid on the SEC package but are offering $350 mil for the big ten game.
I am fearful of what the SEC has done by excluding everyone but ESPN/ABC from the telecasts.
I know Ohio St and Mich ae big tv draws but they can't play but one game a week. I have trouble believing Iowa, Wisc, Purdue can draw that large of an audience compared to SEC teams.

I do not think they will out draw the SEC but once you start adding USC UCLA to the mix the match ups start looking little more interesting weekly where they could easily have two big games a weekend. Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, USC, UCLA, Michigan State and maybe throw in Notre Dame in the future the brands are there.

SECs current contract with CBS is for $55 million / year. CBS pulled out of Negotiations with the SEC supposedly because it was too expensive for the.
CBS would not up their lousy $55M payout in 2012 when the SEC last expanded. With 15 shares (SEC office gets 1 and was 2 before the 2012 expansion) that works out to a pitiful $3.67M per school.

I hate watching games on CBS. They have more commercials it seems to me.
CBS means Commercial Broadcast System. And it's nothing new. Back when I taped games on VHS, I would use an 8 hour tape for CBS games.

quote:I'm afraid not. ESPN has a contract. They don't have to renegotiate. However, the assumption is that, having been burned by CBS in 2012, there is some kind of pro rata escalation clause in the event of expansion to ensure that adding teams did not water down the payout for the existing members. Other than that pro rata adjustment, I would not expect any changes from ESPN with regard to the contract.
The SEC deal with ESPN will get redone now that Texas and Oklahoma are joining. The Big10 money will only be the largest for a short time.
As to how we got into this situation, Clay Travis had said repeatedly, in the years leading up to the contract negotiations, that the SEC was not going to extend the deal with CBS because of the way that CBS refused to up the payout (even pro rata) when A&M and Missouri joined. I'm afraid that may be what happened--CBS was never going to get an extension unless they paid an exorbitant amount of money. It seems that the SEC office wanted to work with ESPN, and CBS understood that there was no point in raising their offer beyond the $300 million initial offer.
Frankly, I think Sankey screwed up big time by not seeing what interest he could get from other players, like NBC. But, the boys in the SEC office seemed too comfortable with ESPN to seriously look around.

If Sankey was on his game the contract with ESPN would have every contingency known to man included in the contract.
If the contract with ESPN/ABC has been finalized I wonder why the details of it have not been released yet. Are they waiting on the big ten contract details to be released first? Has the contract been finalized or are they waiting on some other events to occur first?
I guess we will all know in due course.
