UPDATE: Source says 'no NCAA allegations against' AU staff, program
Absolutely. This is no big deal. The Ncaa probably woont even look into it. Besides allegations of paying a player 200 grand is no big deal.

Newton told the council the building can be brought to code "inside of six months." He also said the church has the money in hand to proceed with the work.

So on February 23rd of 2010, the church would be good to go? Signing day is in February correct?

This is good stuff. The more Cecil talks, the better off Cam will be. Assuming, of course, that the Newtons are completely innocent. I'm not convinced either way, but if they are innocent then Cecil should keep feeding the media more of these kinds of quotes.

quote:

"If Rogers tried to solicit money from Mississippi State, he did it on his own, without our knowledge," Cecil Newton said.

Cecil Newton told ESPN.com he first met Rogers two years ago, when Cam Newton left Florida. He said he talked to Rogers on several occasions to find out more about Mississippi State, but never met Rogers until Cam Newton's official visit to Starkville.

Cecil Newton said the family received a letter from the NCAA "about a month ago" asking for financial statements. He said he submitted bank statements and records for the church where he is pastor, Holy Zion Center of Deliverance in Newnan, Ga., along with other records.

per Jay G Tate

quote:

Cecil Newton, Cam's father: "Somebody is behind this. The timing is so bad. We'll figure out who."

The New York Times is also reporting the NCAA is investigating Newton's recruitment.

Newton's eligibility is the question as of now. People are assuming the investigation widens in the future.

I know how these things work.

The SEC is a band of hypocrits......but become whores when they get caught.

This is about as big a bomb shell as i can remember, and what makes it erie is that MSU sanctioned the release to cover their arse......that there is damning, son.

And if we're looking to feed that theory, we now have quotes from Cecil Newton saying that he had off and on conversations with Kenny Rogers going back to 2 years ago.

I'm going to start a fund to pay 5* recruits to go to MSU if AU gets in trouble for this. Anybody care to make a donation?

Na man it will stay just on the player.

See USC for an example.

I agree. The NCAA's primary focus right now is to find out if Newton should be eligible or not. It's only fair to both Newton and the schools left on Auburn's schedule.

Nobody.

Now, $180,000 is another story.

I think what you are missing is that IF the Newton's knew about this, his status as an amateur could be in jeopardy. (which is kind of a big deal to Auburn's season and Cam's career.)

FWIW, I just don't see anything come of this.

Even though I deep down really wish something would.

MSU didn't report Auburn. They reported Rogers so that down the road they didn't have to answer questions about this.

MSU isn't out to get us.
