The loss wouldn't be erased for you, FYI. Also, they're probably going to let Newton finish the season before the case is over.

they applied for a building code 4 moths before auburn even made contact with cam

All that proves is what we already know, the building needed repairs and the funds to pay was expected before signing day.

Next it will be Joker Phillips contacted the NCAA about the accusations.

The application for a permit in Sept 2009 (when the story was published) proves nothing.

But... I will grant you that what I've bolded below does help Cecil Newton's case:

quote:

Newton told the council the building can be brought to code "inside of six months." He also said the church has the money in hand to proceed with the work.

So that means Newton wasn't as desperate as is being alleged and brings the motive down a peg or two. But it doesn't mean that the Newton family, like virtually all families with a highly viable future pro athlete, wouldn't have found $200k in cold hard cash awfully tempting. So we still have major league opportunity.

Wouldn't be too sure about that. NCAA won't want to show favor to a star player after the whole UNC deal this offseason. They made it clear to UNC not to play investigated players until it was complete. UNC complied and spared themselves some serious penalty. If this investigation picks up pace and become a reason for concern, expect them to wip out a warning to Auburn. With that said, I doubt anything progresses to that point before saturday.

This just in, Deep throat, Quazzy, and 007 met with "jabba" at an undisclosed breakfast eatery in Tennessee to discuss the proper planning on how and when to reveal this information to the NCAA.

More later as the story unfolds.

My post on this about 3 weeks ago. I gave AUburn the benefit of the doubt but apparently I was wrong.

Auburn, you have to be proactive here to the nth degree. It’s up to you to tell us what happened, because if it’s the NCAA that ends up doing the legwork and it, or some news organization, finds out that someone in your program paid to have Newton come in and play quarterback, you’re going to become very familiar with three letters. S.M.U.

Wow, indeed.

I agree with this much... the NCAA is going to throw down the banhammer if they can prove Cam was paid one penny by Auburn or its boosters as part of his recruitment.

So, I love rafting parties as much as the next AU fan, but what do you think our "response" should be?

Auburn should treat the $200k like a tithe to the church

Correct, and so was Reggie Bush his entire collegiate career.

So, like U$C, be sure to get lots of pictures of that Heisman and crystal football if you're lucky enough to bring it home.

The NCAA can take it away, but they can't take away the memories...
