I really like Buzz. It would be a shame if I had to lose respect for him for going to A&M. Seems to be at best a lateral move.

You should send him an email, so he can factor the loss of your respect into his decision making process.

What? From VT (and prior to that Marquette) to aTm would strictly be a money move.
As pointed out numerous times, this would be a significant downgrade job in college basketball in terms of prestige, but the SEC is getting better overall. And, it's getting better due to coaching. So, aTm landing a "blueblood" coach should be a significant upgrade for them.

lateral move.
If they pay him more money I wouldn't say it's lateral.

Prestigiously, it will be a significant downgrade. That said, it will be a significant move for the SEC. Blueblood coaches coming in will continue our results.

Prestige?
Va Tech has that?
They've made 11 all time tourney trips.
In those 11 reached the round of 32 3 times and and the sweet 16 twice (this being their second)
A&M has more than that.
And it's not like Va Tech is a "basketball school" they're just like A&M. Basketball team with a school that cares about football first.
They're about even in terms of prestige. Buzz is just from Texas and could make more money.

VT wanted that because they play in the best conference.
I see what you're saying considering VT not being a "basketball school", but they play (and have competed well) in a basketball conference.
Before that, he came from a bball blue blood.
Buzz is an elite college basketball coach. Does he have any history successfully recruiting in Texas? He'd have to steal the talent Houston has capitalized on. May be more difficult considering how Houston has become a mainstay (and the AAC is very decent basketball conference).

So its conference affiliation then?
So Kentucky's football job is better than any job in the ACC not named Clemson?

my initial argument was that Buzz is a blueblood coach who has made his rounds to where he is today.
He became a blueblood from his success at Marquette. VT paid him to bring that success to VT (a team playing in the best conference in basketball). He's done that.

No, but maybe better than anyone not named FSU, Clemson, or Miami. Simply due to conference prestige.

Okay
See where you’re coming from but don’t agree with it
I think it’s a lateral move in position and A&M will just pay him more.

I think he goes. End of the day.a guy named Tony Bennett is the most popular guy in Virginia. He will probably always be second fiddle in terms of basketball there. A&M will probably pay him more money.
