I get that the numbers were bad, but how much talent and depth did they actually have?

AJ Johnson, Maggitt (missed a lot of time with an injury IIRC) and McCullers are the only ones I can remember by name. There was simply a lack of star talent.

Guys like Willie and Jancek, on the other hand, always had good players on the roster yet they did next to nothing with them. They played a big part in guys like Crompton and John Parker Wilson getting a shot at an NFL career.

UT will certainly be improved this year no matter who the coordinator is. I just think back to the way those guys did less with more than any defensive staff in the nation at that time, and I don't see how they'll be any better at UT.

I remember the UT AthDir didn't support Dooley in keeping his assistants...basically setting him up to fail. New AD now though, I think.

If Sal returned for another year, I guarantee you it would be much improved from where it was last year even with the shortage of talent compared to what it used to be.

I guarantee it wouldn't, and would probably be worse. He had the same players, minus Malik Jackson, that Wilcox had. Wilcox had our D in the top 30. Sunseri was nearly last in the nation. And the 3-4 switch excuse is bullshite, because we played more nickel than we did 3-4.

Part of being a good coach is adjusting your schemes and calls to the fit with the talent at hand. Sunseri is absolute shite.

Tennessee might've been the worst team in the country at keeping contain. So many big plays were shoved up our arse this year because we couldn't fricking contain for shite. If this staff can teach that, I'll be happy.

Fair point.

I can't really defend Sal for not adjusting the scheme to his players. That alone shows his ineptitude in calling the defense.

But to be fair to him, they did make some key stops throughout the season that put UT's offense in position to win games multiple times. Forced 3 turnovers in the first half and some 3rd down stops in the 4th of the UGA game, an INT in the 4th against USCe, etc. That probably gets overlooked because of all the yards they gave up and the fact that the offense couldn't capitalize.

This.

Dude has done an unbelievable job with a crappy hand.

Having said that, the next two years would be lean even if he was Bear + Lombardi combined. However, I think UT has their guy - it just might take to year three to see it on the field.

said everybody before dooley was hired..

You know, I've been really worried that there is someone around here, with moderator powers, who is gay. And I want that person to know that I have nothing against gays ... I'm even a believer in live and let live, and gay marriage, and everything. Love is love. Served with a gay guy in the military and he was a good guy, brave as hell and he never hit on me thankfully.

But if I make a single reference to gays on this forum, I have gotten my balls busted and PMs about not insulting gays. And I wanted to make reference to gays (in a funny sort of way) in another thread about Arkansas and how we should be thankful to them for this and that (wanted to reference the GLAAD founder as an Arkie grad, which he was) ... but I didn't, because I did not want to offend the many gay members or the gay moderator and risk trouble.

I've given it some thought and realized how insensitive I was to the gay plight - referring to Aggie fans as ******* was out of line, I'll never do it again because I understand a lot of Aggie fans lined-up and complained and felt they had been maligned by me and my typed cruelty - they felt they were being discriminated against because of their sexuality ... and I had a guilty conscience about that. I am not gender judgmental. You are what God made you from birth guys - it's okay.

But then I look at that gif and I think, my gosh that is offensive to the gay Aggie fans who complained about my posts and to some of the others - that gif is just so offensive. Shame on the Auburn fan who posted that. He is obviously not secure with his own sexuality.

NO, no it is not! It is offensive and it fails to take into account the gay members of this forum and the Aggie fans. Shame the hell on you!

Those 4th down stops would've been better had they not been preceded by 51 pts in 3 qtrs, including three TD runs over 50 yards (Two of those over 70yds) .

Tiny doesn't get nearly the credit he deserves for the USCe game. He contained Clowney for 98% of the game. The one play he breaks through, it happens to be the game changing play. Tiny played outstanding that game.

No. It uses a ph instead of an f, so that means it isn't offensive.

Clowney was gimpy with an ankle the size of a basketball. Clowney did not play the week before. Tiny faced Clowney exactly nine times ... Clowney only played 18 times the whole game.

Try again.

I thought Dooley did a great job with UT on the offensive side of the ball: brought in top skill players, had one of the better offenses in the SEC and a top OL. Sunseri is who brought the Dooley administration down: obviously a mole plant from the Saban Regime sent in to destroy the Dooley Bloodline and Vol program.

If the Vols had even a moderately mediocre defense last season, they would've had a winning season, and Dooley would still be wearing his orange pants on the sideline. But the Vols D was atrocious. Dooley didn't coach the D....

I wish UT fans would give our running game some credit instead of bashing their own defense. j/k

And yes, TR is a good one indeed, as is the entire line. The biggest issue in those close games was the offense and defense were just never on the same page. We had that same issue in '10.

All I'm getting from this is that you think Clowney is a pussy. You really shouldn't denigrate your own players like that. Especially when it's the best player your school will ever get. I'd be happy to have a player of that caliber, hell even half the caliber, on UT's defense.

It's definitely a stout running game, one I don't really look forward to having to face again this year. But when you get 195 yards on 3 runs, there's a lot of wrong going on for UT along with what is going right for UGA .

This is how we knew we made a mistake hiring Cutcliffe. Opponents loved Otis.
