If anyone has half a brain what ever transaction was done, was handled with cash. NCAA will have fun chasing a paper trail that doesn't exist.

I doubt JFF was stupid enough to deposit a 5 figure check into his account.

If the last eight months have taught us anything, it's that JFF is anything but bright.

What's incredible is that his family is already rich, and he will be an NFL QB in a year. Doesn't make sense that he would to something so naive.

Something also incredible is that this is minor compared to every star Alabama player driving around in detailed Chargers that have their names on the license plates. Something done out in the open like that doesn't get caught, but Manziel's small, hidden dealings get huge news. Strange.

(For the record, I believe that pretty much every major program pays their players in some way or another. It's ignorant to think otherwise.)

Is this your random time to be angry at Alabama again? You're so flaky.

Why is everyone turning this into an Alabama related thing? JFF is a big boy and got himself into this.

I am thinking more and more that JFF is stupid and naive and his friend/PA brokered a deal without him knowing and kept the money.

At least, I am hoping that was what happened, because if he knowingly took money for signing autographs, then he just screwed our program over, himself over and all his teammates over.

Quit it with the bama player references. It's not hard to get a car loan.

Especially since banks put a hold on any deposits over $5,000.

I just want to take a moment to reflect on how much of a turd in the punch bowl Joe Schad is. What a miserable existence... you rarely hear from this guy unless he's crawling in the weeds trying to nail some 20 year old athlete with bullshite like this.

Manziel confirmed this meeting with the guy at the hotel in Alabama the day before the game.

quote:

But Manziel talked about his meeting with the autograph broker in Alabama during our July 26 interview. Manziel said it happened shortly after the team arrived at its hotel on Nov. 9, as he and teammate Swope were getting settled into their room.

The broker himself told ESPN that Manziel signed for free in the hotel room, so that isn't the issue here. At issue is whether Manziel or Fitch asked for and/or received money for autographs at any point afterward. That is what the NCAA wants to know, and the answer likely will determine whether Manziel will be allowed to follow up on his Heisman Trophy-winning redshirt freshman season.

debateable. He doesn't have HALF the arm that vince Young, Tebow, and Cam newton have. He also isn't half the QB that Michael Vick is.

I pretty much see him as Eric Crouch in an Air Raid system.

You'd only be able to deposit one per day. That would get flagged by the IRS, FTC, and SEC.

LOL, no they don't . I routinely deposit checks greater than that with no hold. Now there are times when a bank will hold releasing the funds untul the check clears, in my experience it is over $10k and they hold the amount over what you already have in the bank.

Now, Any cash deposit over a certain amount($7-$10k) require additional paperwork to be signed. This is part of anti money laundering/terrorist laws.

JFF did not have to receive money to be in violation of NCAA rules. If he signed merchandise that was sold for profit, that alone puts him in violation. That undoubtedly occurred. What he would then have to convince the NCAA of, is that he didn't know the items were for profit. That might be a tough sell in this situation.
