Yes, and in 1998 the conferences and bowl entities agreed to a system that used combined polls and multiple computer rankings to determine the final two teams. In 2003, USC and the AP cried because USC didn't make the cut. So the AP reporters and writers awarded USC the fake paper AP championship, which pathetic USC gleefully accepted.
