Man, I miss the old days.

The REF
@KREFsports

35 years ago today: Billy Tubbs grabbed the microphone and said to the LNC crowd, “regardless of how terrible the officiating is, do not throw stuff on the floor.”

The crowd went crazy, Billy got a technical foul and OU rallied from an early deficit to beat Mizzou, 112-105

One of the greatest runs in OU Basketball history. I’m pretty sure We beat 3 consecutive #1 ranked teams at the LNC. KU, Mizzou and Sean Elliott’s Arizona.

I was a barely a teenager, but I was watching that game live with my Daddy when that happened. I was raised a sports nut from a young age.

Now, we have pussy players that hop schools every year and it's a bidding war to see who can get the best team.

The old days were a helluva lot better than the current state of college sports.

Not one cell phone existed in that video clip. People actually had to interact and did. When you went to a game of any sport, you were there invested in it.

Go give directions to the tree hugging bisexual board like you’re used to doing.

That's the game that Norm Stewart collapsed on the plane on the way there and was later diagnosed with cancer. Rich Daley coached the game. Mizzou went on a big run early and Anthony Peeler had a huge windmill dunk.

Nobody here remembers but the Big 8 was the shiznit in basketball in that era with Mizzou, KU, and OU consistently top 10.

Tubbs was so great. I went back and watched this game on Youtube and that happened like 5 minutes into the game on a random travel call. Fans wouldn't even blink an eye at that call today. It wasn't even that bad of officiating up to that point but the fans were so passionate back then every little movement was scrutinized. Crazy

You ain't shittin. Back when we played at Barnhill, the only damn time a fan sat down was at halftime at during TV timeouts. Now, we have all softened.

I feel like the old man when I reminisce like this.

We coulda used this tactic tonight. We won in spite of crooked B12 refs. But my goodness someone has to do something. I know we’ll get the new team treatment by SEC refs but nothing could be worse than B12 ones. They cost us a game in FB and almost tonight.

They gave us weak arse techs for:

-- Jalon Moore (taunting after oop)
-- Otega Oweh (taunting after layup)
-- Sam Godwin (said something from bench)
-- John Hugley IV (ran through a screen too hard?)

Holy shite this was paid off refs. Have you ever seen a player foul out from the fricking bench? They had marching orders. Biggest crowd of season on Toby Keith night too.

quote:

Sam Godwin just fouled out with a technical and this place is booing like all get out. Craziest part? Godwin was on the bench. He got T'd up for celebrating John Hugley's bucket
