I agree with what you’re saying on determining the bye but let’s be honest before the seccg the sec 2 best will be top 5-10. The team that doesn’t get the bye is probably getting the top 1st round seed(group of 5 opponent) which essentially guarantees two sec teams in the second round

I would be greatly disappointed without an SEC Championship Game each season. It matters.

The SECCG should be stopped. The conference should have ONE goal, to help teams get to the playoff bracket to win the national title. I don't give a damn about a championship game. Its just a chance for someone to get hurt for no reason.

This guy gets it. Very well said.

However, this is not what the SEC presidents are thinking. They want to maximize revenue. With the coming train wreck of paying players an estimated $20M a year, I think they are more concerned with maximizing revenue, and then winning championships.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe the NCAA made the championship game a requirement for the bye. (which would really just be a bullshite reason still ti's all about they money)

Does any conference get a bye with no championship game?

I’ve been wondering this too. Unless the CFP always puts in the 2 CCG teams from the P4; then there is no reason to have the game. The ACC game last year with 12-0 FSU vs Lville 10-2; UoL was already 14; it was a long shot for a 12 team; but they for sure weren’t getting in with 3 losses. Why risk it? Now, I’m not arguing that a 3 loss team should get in; but if you’re the ACC or B12 why would you want a 1 loss team who’s in, risking getting left out with a second loss.
