Dixie beer is brewed in New Orleans. Always has, always will. The term "Dixie" also originated in New Orleans. Dixie derived from the French word for the number 10, which is "dis" So much for Alabama being the "heart of Dixie"

So yeah....NO.

So much for N.O. being the home of Dixie.

Don't get me wrong, there is a time and place for something cold, domestic and cheap...esp. at ballgames and events where you want to get blasted on the cheap. But a well crafted microbrew or stout hits the spot sometimes.

Abita strawberry(it's just a hint) is really worth trying if you've never had it...in season now but doesn't last long

Good People out of Birmingham has a nice oatmeal coffee stout and brown ale. Haven't had any others off their line.

I don't feel there is a great southern brewery. Sweetwater is very good, but its not on the level of an Ommagang or Dogfish Head.

Abita Amber is good.
Olde Town (brewed in Huntsville, AL) is also good. I prefer the amber version of it as well.

Straight to Ale, Yellowhammer, and Blue Pants are all also brewed in Huntsville. These three are apparently only on tap, and since all of my beer comes from the grocery store, I haven't had a chance to try them.

The Sweetwater brewery is like 5 minutes from my house. Pretty much is $8 for a free pint glass and 6 tickets for beer pours. Since they are not a bar, they can't sell beer there and they can't give you full free cups of beer either. Fun times on a beautiful day like today on their patio.
