Here's what I gotta love while reading this thread ... and this is just par for the course, but I get it.

Saban tried to hire Shawn Elliott from South Carolina ... for a reason.

Saban tried signing three of our five starters for next year, and one of our backups for next year, and another one in the incoming class this year ... for a reason.

Marcus Lattimore and our offense has been successful since Elliott arrived ... for a reason.

When I state the fact that South Carolina will have one of the finest offensive lines and, for the first time ever one of the deepest offensive lines, in the league next year I am doing so ... for a reason.

And no, the reason is not because I am a homer because right now I would rank LSU #1 and UT #2 heading into the season. But I am absolutely confident in my contention that SC's OLine will be better than Georgia's and probably Florida's and A&M's, and just as good as Bama's. And hell, if I wanna be a homer I'll say they have a chance to be better than LSU's and UT's especially since UT lost their OLine coach.

I feel like SC's line has been mediocre at best for a few years now.

They only averaged 3.67 YPC last year and about 138 yards per game on the ground.

They were also #102 in the nation in sacks allowed, and #82 in total offense.

That line was not very good last year.

They were a pretty good in 2011, but still gave up a ton of sacks, although the ground option game was pretty good for them.

In 2010 they were #60 in rushing and #74 in sacks allowed.

in 2009 they were #91 in rushing and #100 in sacks allowed.

There is a pattern here. USCe lines have not been very impressive the last few years.

Especially in pass protection.

USC seems to have a bunch of slugs on the lines and I've never really been impressed with them.

I just can't say UT because they ALWAYS underacheive now and they are in transition. That being said, there is too much talent there for them to stink, so they'll probably still end up top 5 in the conference, maybe top 3 if they play well.

If Georgia stays healthy, I'll say:

1. Georgia
2. LSU
3. TAMU
4. Tennessee
5. Alabama

We always have under Saban no matter how many players we return. Cyrus/Steen + a Freshman All SEC Center + a Stud out of JUCO + Whomever wins the other Guard spot will be a top three line by the time the season is over. Bookmark this if you want.

In pass pro I'll say yeah CyKo has a good advantage, but in run blocking I think Tiny is a bit better than Cyrus.

as if. Nobody, including some of your own fanbase, had never heard of the guy when that list came out. Some Bama fans even thought it was odd that he was selected

Fair enough and damn hard to argue with that logic - when you put it that way - IF putting it that way was pertinent to the discussion - which it's not.

But let's admit this at least, if you will?

2009 and 2010 don't mean shite. Even we Gamecock fans will tell you our OLine sucked both those years, although they did well enough to help us win some games and get on the right track beginning in 2010. Very young at the time, a lot of freshmen, but now all grown-up.

Shawn Elliott joined us in January of 2010. He started recruiting better players, it's all gonna pay-off this coming year and hopefully for awhile to come.

With regard to last year, those numbers are deceiving. You make it as if our offense was Busch league? Why? In 2012, the Gamecocks finished fifth in the SEC in scoring, (31.5 points per game), averaging 377 yards of O per contest, with a methodical, balanced, attack of 139 ypg on the ground and 238 ypg through the air. Senior center T.J. Johnson was second-team All-SEC behind the guy at Bama, and tackle Brandon Shell (Who Saban wanted badly two years ago) was named to the SEC All-Freshman squad.

In 2011 with a super young squad, The Gamecock offense showed good balance. The squad averaged 192 yards on the ground and 182 yards through the air. Carolina had a 100-yard rusher in eight of the 13 games. Offensive tackle Rokevious Watkins earned first team All-SEC honors as a senior.

But, as I typed earlier, this is gonna be the year when it finally all comes together for the Gamecocks and Shawn Elliott on the offensive line.

Yeah, maybe the bandwagoners.

And some of us actually paid attention when he was in the game. Either way he's not gonna be as good as Barrett, but has the potential to be better than Caldwell and of course Vlachos. Either way this year's OL all boils down to him making the correct calls.

Exactly. One good O-lineman doesn't make for a good O-line so, why do you have bama's ranked so high? Didn't they just lose three three year starters?

Patrick Lewis might not have been the best on that O-line but, he was the heart and soul of it. He was their leader. He will be missed more than aggie fans realize.
