Except that wasn't his nickname in college. He got that later, after going to play with the Jets.

Which brings to mind: Was stabler 'the snake' in college, or did that start in Oakland?

Travis 'Cheese' Henry. A nickname many of his teammates call him to this day.

Henry was built like a tank. After a punishing run where he absolutely made a defender hate the game of football. He came to the sidelines.

One of his teammates, it may have been Tee Martin, made the statement. "Man, you hard...hard like a block of that welfare cheese."

'Cheese' stuck.

Would have been way better if it wasn't tied to a really dumb meme from 2008.

Jevon 'The Freak' Kearse

There are rumors the name did not come from his play. He was given the name in the locker room because of his...uh...very large 12" hands...

quote:

"Jevon truly lives up to the nickname," Watterson said. "I mean, he physiologically and morphologically is a freak." 86-inch wingspan. He can hold a 12-inch ruler in his massive hand, which measures a foot from his thumb to the end of his pinky.

I don’t know if this applies or not, but when the triplets were playing basketball in the 70’s at Arkansas they called Ron Brewer “boot head.”

Sydney Moncrief was asked why they called him that and Sydney said it was because his head was shaped like a boot.
