I've never felt LSU's was the "best ever". Alabama's was certainly good, but other than Alabama fans being offended that anyone would question the '92 team, how in the world are you going to compare who are what was the 'best ever' since 1869 ?

Well saying they were the best ever is hard to say, but best since the 70's is pretty easy to say.

You can't . But sticking to the OP topic ,I think we all know the answer.

You haven't been around or seen much then. Curry/Copeland at DE was two of the best.... ever.
...yea and my boy Mawae held big bad Curry to 1 assisted tackle and he was a SOPHMORE!
Now, old Roscoe got destroyed by Copeland.....
On topic: I think the '92 Bama defense takes it between the 2......'79 was best.

just for Alabama's defenses, you could argue the 1979 one was just as good,if not better than 1992.
Nebraska in 1971, Southern Cal in '72 and Oklahoma throughout the '70's had some brutal, savage defenses just as good as those.
Not agreeing that Alabama's 1992 defense was the best ever is not equal or tantamount to saying they sucked, either.

Oh,yea. I'd give Alabama's 1992 a slight edge over LSU's 2003.

Bama's 92 defense(not including the NC) had...
Interceptions - 22, 3 returned for TDs
QB Pressures - 90
Sacks - 50
Tackles for Loss - 65 (not including sacks, from what I can tell)
Fumbles Caused - 17
Fumble Recoveries - 14
Passes Broken Up - 42
Opponents averaged 194 Total yards and 9.2 points per game.
P.S. I did this as much for me as for ya'll, I'd never really added this stuff up before.

I have a good reference thread for statistical comparison in the points category: LINK.
Avg. PA in SEC games for '92 = 20.177
Avg. PA for Bama D in 8 SEC games = 9.75 (48.3%)
Avg. PA in SEC games for '03 = 22.719
Avg. PA for LSU D in 8 SEC games = 11.25 (49.5%)
You gotta go with '92 Bama. Lavalais was awesomeness defined, and LSU might have had a chance, but Arkie put up some great rushing stats against them in that 55-24 game (even with Matt Jones sucking in the passing game), so that sort of gave the edge to the elephants.

Also...
A Commodore fan should know when to use "best" or "better."

my favorite game of that year. We fricked up Heath Shuler. He chose a better career field in being a politician

We've almost always played to our competition. Mostly winning overall, but aggravating at times.
Still... the D pitched a shutout.
