Meh.

Maybe one of the local restaurants down there, but a TON of America's seafood is from La., without a doubt some that you and i have already eaten and enjoyed.

I wouldn't live in NOLA either, but it's a damn fun place to party

you have no point. just like all of the other gumps in this thread.

Don't lump me in. I've lived in Louisiana (Baton Rouge), and enjoyed my time there. My parents lived in New Orleans for a few years. While I rather live in Alabama, I have lots of respect for Louisiana's culture. This thread has veered way off.

What's coming in from Bayou La Batre is being caught in Alabama waters. But what's the point. It's the Gulf of Mexico. It doesn't belong to Alabama, no more than it does to Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, or Texas.

wow - this thread turned into something crazy...

New Orleans is one of those cities that has the best of humanity along with the worst. It's a true city in that sense. It has beauty, great art, food, people, music and a very unique culture. It also has segments of danger and brutality.

The fornicators at Mardi Gras are the tourists... the locals are the ones running the parades, going to balls, opening their stores, restaurants and hotels, playing music, etc...

The diversity of New Orleans one aspect that makes me proud to be from there. It's different from the rest of the South. I appreciate that. And when some people judge that city based upon the lowest common denominator that was, unfortunately, on camera for the entire world to see... it kind of hurts. Because you're missing the true beauty of the city.

Good post.

While I'm from Alabama, I see myself as a Southerner more than anything. I've lived all over the South, and have come to enjoy parts of every Southern state tremendously. While I'll always love the state of Alabama more, I can appreciate what Louisiana, or any other Southern state, can offer.

exactly. but don't expect some people to understand this. it doesn't fit into their preconceived notions and doesn't support their weak, stereotyping argument.

It's funny. I've always enjoyed myself in Alabama... and when I speak to people in and around DC about how beautiful portions of the state are, they are surprised. All they think about Alabama is that it's racist and dirty.

I'm trying to pimp the South up here.

Now... there's absolutely nothing I can do for Mississippi. Sorry.

True. In all my travels, folks think people in the south drive on dirt roads still.

I really don't have anything against the city of New Orleans. This all started when someone tried to say that Alabama had no culture whatsoever. My natural reaction was to try to get a rise out of said person. Needless to say, I succeeded.

I have been to New Orleans many times. My uncle lived down there for several years. I found most of the city to be pleasant, especially the area around the French Quarter. My family absolutely adores the Cafe du Monde.

The last time I was down there was in January 2006. My family was in town for a wedding. I spent one night on Bourbon Street and still can't believe how deserted it was. I only got one set of beads from people on the balconies above. I usually get more than that. I was very disappointed.

But I'm sure it's much more crowded these days.

how ironic you decided to target New Orleans when my original post was about Louisiana have more culture than Alabama. i didn't specify NOLA, you did.

Don't be such a dumb arse. When the average American thinks of "Louisiana Culture" their thoughts immediately dwell on the city of New Orleans.

At least you finally got something right. However "badass" is two words. Not one.
