Why doesn't UAB just go to the Auburn system? That way auburn can have a med school and DO school. That's an interesting question. I have to guess the UAB folks are looking into it.

Because the Univ of Alabama system built UAB. Gatorade cannot just leave Pepsi to go to Coca Cola

UNO went from the LSU system to the UL system 2 or 3 years ago in Louisiana.

What Bama does might impact Auburn through state funding.
Alabama and Auburn and all the other state universities work together almost 100% of the time. UA and AU have lobbying offices in Montgomery that are right next door to each other in the same building

Oh I'm not saying it couldn't happen but UAB cannot just leave the UA system. I am sure that would take an act of the legislature.

But in no way does the Alabama system dictate to the Auburn system.
You realize that the President of the Board of Trustees for Auburn is a UA Alumni...

The only thing keeping UA from being a memember of the AAU is that we dont have an on campus medical school. So I'm fine with UAB breaking off and keeping thier football team, but we get the medical school back at the Capstone.

The way the UAT people bully UAB is shameful.

Yall can start another one. LSU has 2 and is trying to open a 3rd in BR.
I would hate going to med school on a college campus. Damn undergrads being loud in the library and taking all the good parking spots. However, I would enjoy the sluts, which probably wouldn't be good for my grade.

Why build another one The University of Alabama School of Medicine belongs at The University of Alabama. Make UAB start their own since they want to do everything thier own way.
Posted on 11/6/14 at 8:34 am to GIbson05
School of medicine is every bit as much of UAB's as it is UAT's.

THIS!
If the BOT has designs against UAB's football team it is due to branding the overall profile of the University of Alabama.
The BOT is trying to position the University system for more research dollars and positive expansion of the system.
Im sorry if the UAB football team is not apart of this plan, but it is necessary to for the greater good of the university and the state.
There are more practical reasons than "we Scared".

The BOT is once again trying to shove it up UAB's rear end.
We all know that Bear Jr, Johnny Johns and Finis St John truly want what's best for UAB.

actually more because it is the UAB Health System not the UA or UAT health system. Also according to wikipedia the UA system uses the $$$ made bythe UAB health system to fund the UA system. So Bama is actually sucking off of UAB.

The system operates on state appropriations, student tuition and fees, public and private grants and contracts, and revenue from the UAB Health System.

UAB alum here and some of these posts are hilarious. UAB is the biggest employer in the state, world renown medical facilities, researchers, and doctors so the debate over if the university is still viable is hilarious. As for the football team we are in a state where Bama and Auburn reign supreme UAB poses no threat in that regard, but hey football > academics at least until it comes to UAB

UAB helps pay for the system. The system pays for the University of Alabama. The University paid the football program $5.5 million in 2013 and the program only paid back $4.4million to the school. Therefore the mighty alabama crimson tide cost UAB $$$. UAB should demand that the crimson tide be shutdown.
