Watching this replay of the NC game, in the 3rd quarter and he's just running right over LSU. I assume with Richardson gone, he's the new HB, so my question is how is he looking right now during the spring? Do y'all think he'll be at the level of an Ingram or Richardson? Any funny stories or nicknames we should know about before the season starts?

he's good, but not that good imho. I think you'll see even more of the RB by committee this year.

He's out of spring practice due to surgery to repair turf toe that nagged him all year. It's doubtfull that he will be 100% come the fall, but he should be ready to go.

No, I don't think he's the same level of back as Ingram and Richardson. I don't think he has the same vision for the field and power, but he can make up for it with his athletic ability. The experienced O-line will give him much running space.

that's good stuff.

Guy would scare the crap out of me if he was running towards me. From this game and a couple others I saw this year, he looks like the slowest of the three (he, Ingram, and Richardson), but the most likely to break every bone in your chest as he runs over you.

He's not nearly as big as Jalston Fowler, who will see alot of playing time:

Yeah, from what I've seen I would agree that he's not quite the athlete, especially vision-wise, that those two were. I think he's going to have at least one monster year just because of HOW he runs as well as that O-line you mentioned and the assumed improvement of McCarron as a QB, thus making the pass more of a threat.

Ingram > lacey
Richardson > lacey

He will get the bulk of the carries so his numbers will be high but he won't be the same kind of game breaker

Despite what little playing time he had, I was SHOCKED by the ability of Jalston Fowler... He must have averaged close to 10 yards per carry, for what ever time he was given. Fowler reminds me a lot of Shaun Alexander.

I will take Lacy over Ingram(2010) without question, assuming Lacy is 100% healthy.

Fowler

My opinion on rotation is different than most of the Bama fans that I've seen post. I don't think Saban will have a RB by committee, no more than he has any other year. He will identify the top two and go with them, unless a third back brings a different skill set to the game. I don't think that is the case with this stable.

So as far as "skill sets", are both of these guys just bruiser-type backs? I haven't seen too much of them, but their size just suggests a couple of guys who are going to run over people. I know Bama will never have a shortage of guys with edge speed, but are the two primary HBs both going to be battering rams?

I don't consider either one bruiser backs. Trent and Ingram would look for people to punish and seek contact. Neither Lacy or Fowler are they type that lowers the shoulder and punishes whenever possible. They will run over people, but due to size not style or attitude.

Lacy likes to run between tackles and will stay inside if possible. Will use the spin move anytime anyplace and more than once per play if needed. Fowler will run between tackles but loves to slide outside when nothing opens up immediately, deceptive speed for 250lbs+. He crushed some poor guy last year, but can't find the highlight.

Here's some plays from both of them for only a couple of games, not necessarily highlights just most carries for those games. LINK

You're right, the video has them both doing a lot of dancing to find holes before they take off. I just assumed cause they were so big they'd be bangers. Somehow this is even worse, cause both look pretty quick as well as solid. I pictured them doing their thing a little more like this guy.

Lacy is not a bruising back that runs straight ahead, he likes to stutter and spin too much. He is pretty good athletically but not on the same RB plane as Ingram and Richardson. He will put some numbers up and ran well during the Championship game especially when the LSU defense had been on the field forever. They will want to spread the wealth like us this year so don't expect huge carries.

He's soft. LSU let him run over them, that was Miles' gameplan that night.

Dee Hart brings a little different skill set than Lacy and Fowler, and I imagine we'll see a fair amount of him this season.

Dee Hart is the smallest of all the backs. Alabama really has no bruisers. They are all pretty finesse.

Very few RB's are as physically gifted as Richardson was. But, there won't be any drop off in the running game this year. Lacy is very good. He may be more PHYSICALLY talented than Ingram was. Ingram had good vision and just refused to be tackled. Lacy seems to have good vision too, and has probably been our most explosive runner the past two years. I don't know the stats, but I'm willing to bet that he had more 10+ yard runs per carry than either Ingram or Richardson had. I know some will say it's because Lacy got his carries in garbage time, blah blah, but he got a lot of those carries in the course of the game.

I don't see Lacy as a dancer. He shoots straight ahead into traffic then starts spinning like a mofo. He often spins right out the other side into the open.

I'm not as excited about Fowler as I once was. After seeing him carry the ball some, he just doesn't excite me. I think he will be a good back and will do well as the backup. I agree with what someone else said about him looking like Su. Alexander. I don't mean to say he's that good - he just has a similar running style, although bigger and a little slower.

Dee Hart. I haven't seen enough of him to know, but he seems like a smaller (not as small as some think) Richardson. He probably has quicker feet than the other guys.

Yeldon. We don't know yet, but judging by his build, I don't think he'll ever be a true power runner. Kind of makes me think of Glen Coffee. Could be a great back, but to my eye, just isn't built like a prototypical RB.
