Probably because Alabama was the #1 team in the country. That'd be my guess.

BAMA YOU IDIOTS THINK YOU HAVE 14 NCS?!?! yall really have like 9 yall won way back then in BS polls.... and someone else was AP national championship, OU could clame 17 but the only choose to claim the ones they won in the AP polls... oh and nice loss to tulane yesterday in baseball losers!

Question, do you think that in the 1930s, when the AP first appeared on the scene, that everyone got together and agreed that the AP national championship would be the only legitimate national championship? The AP didn't start gaining any relevance until the late-40s and wasn't considered to be an end-all-be-all poll until the 1950s. And, just so you know, since #1 vs. #2 started playing yearly in the post-season in 1992, Alabama has won 3 national championships - tied for the most with Florida and Nebraska. So it's not like we have won all of our national championships in ancient history.

I bet you can count on your fingers the number of Alabama fans who even care about our baseball team or even know that we have a baseball team. Count me among those who do not give a flying flip about baseball. I don't even care about our softball team and we're ranked in the Top 10 consistently every year.

Alabama claims 14 NCs, being those awarded by either or both the UPI or AP after 1936 (10 of them)-1992 also included coaches, which only began in 1991, and prior to 1936 those only officially recognized by the NCAA, and granted by multiple polls (4 of them). There are 5 other instances of polls or associations naming Bama their NC, however these are not officially recognized.

We don't. Last time I checked it's called the BCS NC, not the NCAA NC.
