We have one MNC in 1957... we've had MNC caliber teams in 1983(11-1), 1993(11-0), and 2004(13-0).

based on that, I'd say under the right cicumstances we can certainly compete and win a national championship... as to the actuall question of "when", that's impossible to say.

You have a MUCH better chance (as do all SEC teams) when the SEC is dominating like we have the last 4 years. Every SEC fan should pull for the other SEC teams when they play OOC games. It only helps YOUR team, in case you're close to being in the big game. If the SEC had won 4 NC's in a row in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003, Auburn would have been in the big game in 2004. There's not a doubt in my mind.

1993 was not a complete season for Auburn. It took 13 wins back then to play for the championship, or at least 12 to win the conference. Auburn could not play in the SEC championship game, so how do you know that you could have played for a national championship, when you don't even know if you could have won the conference? How many times have Auburn fans said that if Bama had not won the SEC championship game this year that we would have had a perfect season, but won nothing. Well this is exactly what Auburn did, they had an undefeated regular season but won absolutely nothing.

To everyone saying Auburn didn't win a Nat'l Title in '57, API did, well, you're half right.

The school was still called API in 1957, but the Athletic teams were called Auburn.

Well we did beat the SEC champions that year.

I think we were the best team in the league.

And how do you know that you would have done it again? In 1996, Florida State beat Florida in the regular season before being run out of New Orleans in the Sugar Bowl by the very same Gators.

Auburn will always be there, I don't care what the talk of MNC, but Auburn is more than what most clowns will ever admit. Yes, we don't have luck on our side but we are a storied program no matter what anybody tries to make us out to be.
