A&M, regardless of their success, is always in the shadow of Texas, just as Auburn is perpetually in the shadow of Bama. Vandy fans know it. Texas fans know it. And yes, Auburn fans know it.

Don't even begin to compare Auburn with A&M. A&M is almost always losing to Texas. Everybody expects, every year, for Texas to win that game. Nobody expects that in the Iron Bowl. Plus, Alabama only has a five game series lead over Auburn. That's not exactly domination, by any stretch of the imagination.

Texas has consistently great years with the occasional bad seasion, and A&M has consistently mediocre-bad years with the occasional conference championship.

Auburn and Alabama are much more even.

Its not about "domination", or series records, its just the perception that Texas A&M is always trying to get in the camera frame with their "prettier sister", Texas.

Auburn and Texas A&M are the Jan Brady's of college football.

I'm willing to say that Auburn's national perception is MUCH greater than Texas A&M's. And we might not get as much media love as Alabama does, but we get our share, which is loads more than Texas A&M.

You didn't have to bring his grandma in it...

We may not have an in-state rival but we, like AL, also have a winning record over AU.

How do you like dem apples?

My original post was a joke about Bama always saying they are back.

Alabama only thinks they have national perception. I bet if you ask anybody else around the US, they do not give a shite about Alabama.

How much you want to bet if Alabama would have gone undefeated in '04, we WOULD have been playing for the NC?

Also, I would bet that if Auburn was 6-0 and played who we have played and beat who we have beat thus far this year, you wouldn't be ranked #2 like us.

Actually, there is absolutely no way in hell you would have been playing for the national title that year. USC v Oklahoma was being pimped as one of the greatest games of all time, and there is no way anybody was jumping that undefeated Oklahoma team. Plus, Alabama started out ranked lower than we were in the preseason that year, so they would have had even more ground to make up. I mean, we basically dominated everybody on our schedule that year aside from LSU, and didn't get a sniff. Alabama really would have found it hard to do any different.

Alabama is a traditional media darling. If they had gone undefeated in '04, there is no doubt they would have been playing for the national title. This is not even up for debate.

So Oklahoma isn't a traditional media darling? News to me...

They are, but if Alabama had done the unbelievable and come off of a bowl probation to go undefeated, there's no way they wouldn't have jumped Oklahoma after the Sooners had just gotten beaten in the title game the year before.

Both Oklahoma and USC had magnificent years before that 2004 year, unlike Alabama. The hype for that national title game was so unbelievable, that I have a hard time believing that voters would vote out Oklahoma or USC. Alabama might have had a better chance of getting a split title though.

we were number 2 a couple of years ago after we beat Florida. Arkansas beat us. I guarantee you anybody that played as good as you did the first 6 games would be #2. You are dumb as shite

With Southern Cal and Oklahoma also going unbeaten and starting the season 1-2 ? I would bet a million dollars Alabama WOULD NOT have been playing for the NC.

Alabama was 11-0 going into the SEC title game in 1994. What were they ranked at kickoff time ?
