Sounds like Alabama is harder to get into than Auburn?
Alabama has doubled their enrollment in the last 20 years. Auburn had a bigger class in the 90's and early 2000's. With a larger enrollment in the same state, of course Alabama's acceptance rate will be higher. They want more students.

Have you ever actually been to Jordan-Hare Stadium?
Ever seen the inner-workings, like around the locker room and press areas? The skyboxes?
If you think that's a top-notch facility in 2024, I just don't know what to tell you.

It’s not. But it’s hardly at the bottom of the conference either.

My favorite stat is Auburn’s “44% acceptance rate” despite the average student denial profile having an 18.9 ACT score.
They must have thousands of literal retards applying.

This is true for Auburn and Alabama. Every year there is a free application week in the state (not sure on other states). The high school counselors at all the high schools get massive amounts of high schoolers to apply at this time. Even though most will not be accepted.
You seem really upset about the acceptance rate. Auburn is going to deny more than Alabama because Alabama has more incoming freshman.

Alabama has more applicants, so that doesn’t really matter. Both schools deny 20-30% of applicants, historically.

This is incorrect, but I understand why Auburn is parroting it. Incredibly deceiving, but is now being published by every outlet. The 44% was their acceptance rate for the Early Application period. Their overall acceptance rate will remain between 70-80% as it always has.
Nice try. It’s the overall acceptance rate (44%)…

Why the significant and sudden departure of policy from 71,000 accepted to 43,000?

Incorrect. Those are the numbers cited by Auburn’s Vice President of Admissions, referencing the early admissions period, and haven’t been updated since November, 2022.

He cited those numbers in February of 2023, and notes that the final admissions acceptances wouldn’t go out until the normal March deadline.

It never happened though. This is the official AU Counselor handbook (46k total applications incl regular admissions):
It confirms all the numbers listed below and US News’ website is up to date (it shows 44% overall acceptance rate)..

Well, it hasn’t been updated since November, 2022. According to your very own Vice President of Admissions the early admissions process ran through January, and normal admissions weren’t announced until March 2023.
Are you attempting to tell me that Auburn didn’t allow any admissions after November 2022 for the Fall 2023?
Are you also of the belief that Auburn went from admitting 70-80% of applicants historically (with several years at 90%+) to admitting a number more than 20% lower than their all time lowest number (69% in 2007) in the matter of one academic school year?
I don’t care who is citing those numbers or where they’re printed. They are referencing numbers that have not been updated since November of 2022, and are therefore inaccurate.

Now, I understand the confusion. The 2022 number refers to the 2022-2023 academic year, while the cited 2023 press release refers to the 2023-24 academic year. Basically, AU reported the 43/44% acceptance rate in two separate academic years. Technically, they still have to report the Fall 2023 acceptance rate. However, the 2022 (43% overall acceptance rate) refers to the previous academic year (2022) and is official.
