Auburn fans-
Why does Thorne start over Ashford? Eye test alone, Ashford is 10x the QB Thorne is and gave us fits when he was in. Ashford was able to move the offense, Thorne was not.
I'm sure Thorne's stats are terrible

I guess Thorne knows the offense better and its not like he can't run either. Our offense is so devoid of talent that I don't think Caleb Williams could save the day.
My only thought process is Hugh is trying to throw the ball, successfully or not, to show WR recruits that we will throw the ball plenty. We just need some guys that can catch and make plays.

i guess that could make sense in some way but Thorne didn't strike me as a good passer or anything Ashford was incapable of doing.
Just seemed weird to me

I've said this to a couple of my Auburn friends.
Ashford is a much more explosive runner and has much more upside when he takes the ball. Thorne is completing passes to the flat or for short yardage mainly. All passes Ashford is capable of making.
Neither are THE guy. But I see much more spark when Ashford is in.
