Auburn won a NC 3 years before Malzahn became HC and he was considered to be the brain behind that championship.
Bowl Jackson claims no au fan ever said that.

This is a business decision made to show a relative level of continuity. It is necessary. If he looses the team or this season tanks he'll be fired none-the-less. If he somehow manages 7 or 8 wins it also reminds fans Auburn is trying to work toward something.
The failure of Chiz...not the BCS title...the ability to maintain the support of his team and coaches almost assures that Auburn has to allow Gus a lot of rope for the future health of the program. 2.5 million isn't much to sign on for considering what is at stake over say 5 or 10 years if the program is viewed as unstable.
You can make a lot of money in the SEC being average...8 or 9 wins...or below average 6 or 7 wins...ask arkie.

Gus is a saint in my book for hiring Steele, so I'm very happy for him.
Thank you St. Gus and God bless you sir.

I actually said exactly that. I said no AU fan claimed that Malzahn was "the real HC in 2010", which was word for word what was claimed. But many AU fans believe that Malzahn's offense was the main reason for the championship and Chizik's short lived success. Two totally different things.
UGA fans are always going on about what a good school UGA is. You throw around things like "Harvard of the South." Yet on this site your fans continually display the reading comprehension of a 6th grader.

I just feel sorry for Auburn fans at this point. I think they should start a gofundme page.

Given the circumstances his struggles were understandable. Bama was half a step away from the death penalty. I could be wrong because I don't follow Bama closely and I was 15 when Shula's tenure ended, but I don't recall him losing games due to bad coaching decisions and I thought the 10-2 season showed promise that he could do well.

I hope Auburn keeps Gus forever.

Link? Show me one instance of an Auburn fan (not some blog writer) calling Malzahn the real HC and I'll eat crow. Giving him credit or calling him the brains is a completely different thing.
Nobody thought Malzahn was actually in charge. To the contrary Chizik became such a micro-managing control freak that it was his downfall and drove Malzahn away.

How do I link personal conversations? I'm sorry that I don't frequent Auburn message boards so I don't have any online samples to give you right this moment.

Most anti-Auburn posts in this thread are driven on hope
Nah. They're driven by the realization that your schedule this year is difficult, and it will be surprising if Auburn wins any of their difficult games:
-Clemson
-LSU
-@ Ole Miss
-@UGA
-@Bama
That doesn't include the tossups. (@Miss St., TAMU, Arkansas)

No, not really different things. The post you replied to essentially said the same idea in different words. The brains = the offense = the reason = the credit = the real head coach. All very similar ideas.

If you truly heard that in personal conversation then I wish I could link some of the stuff I've heard the types of Bama fans that only know Saban and MAYBE one or two players on the current team. Because if anybody truly said that to you then they're on the same level of fandom and you and I both know not to take those people seriously and to just nod and not confuse them by correcting them.
ETA:
Case in point, the Georgia fan above me^^^ Already been corrected but clearly not intelligent enough to accept reason. Not worth another response. If he was in front of me I'd just nod until he went away.

The most full of shite post so far this offseason. I don't think this can be topped.
Kudos on your individual offseason award.

LSU is the only team you listed that beat us handily last year. We were like 2 dropped passes from beating OM, MSU, UGA, and Arkansas. We also were in striking distance of Bama until halfway through the 4th qtr.
I'll just go ahead and say Clemson, LSU, and Bama are losses, but everybody else you mentioned lost a shite ton while we should be improved by a lot. There's no logical reason anybody other than the big 3 on the schedule should be considered anything other than a toss-up

As an au fan, we know you cant comprehend similarities of the implications Made by au fans a few years ago. Most all au fans gave Gus the credit for 2010 after 2012. THats how many au fans justified his hiring, and the dumbest au fans thought 2013 validated that idea.

Well it's a little different when you're talking about a HC going into his 4th year at a school building something as opposed to Arkansas who has been "building something" since the last time...
bullshite, I was speaking specifically of Bert's tenure. You can blow and go all you want but no one fears Auburn or thinks of them as a 'power' so just stop.
