Well, that's just fact. Do with it what you will.
Sure, but the only reason it's being brought up now is to excuse the poor class of Harsin.

What does the hire have to do with not being able to have kids on-campus? Nobody could have kids on-campus.
Recruiting is only one part of the job you know? It's hard to say Gus even did that well.
But you are willing to write Harsin altogether because you are judging one recruiting class, 8 months after he was hired during a Covid year? And ignoring the fact that the recruiting has picked up considerably the last few weeks and should continue to do so.
We'll see where your class ends up. But you are completely understated how big of a drop Auburn is looking at recruiting wise.
It's not like oh you only dropped down 6 spots, doom and gloom!
It's almost like you are getting hit with a penalty, only because it's at the hands of your coach, you are just making excuses for it.
He still has time to turn it around, but right now you are in Kentucky/Vandy territory.

All I got in return were excuses about how Gus lost the talent he got anyway
Do I really need to develop a list of all the 5* busts under Gus Malzahn? I’m willing to bet he has missed on more blue chip players than any other coach from 2009-present, and I include 2009, 2010 and 2011 because he was the OC and was in charge of the offense (save 2012, Scot Loeffler).

All either busts, transfers or kicked out for character issues. Miss-management of a roster. Every player listed was a 250 player or better, with a lot of 150 guys and also a lot of 5* guys. And I could’ve named more but chose the guys with a more recognizable name.
Again, on paper, sure… Gus’ classes were really good. At the end of the day, though, when the class is broken down years later…not so much.

Apparently Harsin stopped having the pie and cake eating contest during the spring. That action shows he’s out of touch with the Auburn culture. Recruits looked forward to that family gathering

quote:Absolutely. This, along with Auburn hiring a brand new staff is why they are where they are.
Oh and I think the NCAA rules for COVID w/r/t recruiting really hurt Auburn. Auburn's whole marketing spiel is essentially "we're different than those other guys" and really lean into the old school small college town charm. That just doesn't transmit over zoom. There is a logical reason why the dominant schools even cleaned up more than usual last year and it is everything became about the business decision and not "touchy-feely" stuff since that was essentially legislated out of the process.
It needs to be noted that Harsin and company saved last recruiting class that was abysmal even under Gus prior to him being fired. Auburn was ranked horribly before he was fired.

Seriously? We've been bringing it up for years now. So has the rest of the Rant. Of course we want 4* and 5* players, but we want a coach who brings in players who fit the system and really want to play there.

We are...right now...but won't finish that way.
And this will probably be a down class, it happens. If the product is good on the field in the fall, next year will be better and he will close with a solid class. It's not like he just drove a bus full of coaches from Boise, Idaho. Most of our staff has been recruiting in the Southeast for a while.

Thanks! I was about to do the same but I'm too damn tired.

My favorite part of all of this, is Alabama fans acting like Auburn is all doom and gloom because they got rid of a coach the Alabama fanbase constantly joked on. They openly mocked Gus Malzahn and talked about how much of a joke he was, and now that Auburn has a new coach they act like Gus was Auburn’s savior.
It’s hilarious.
It’s hilarious.

Eh, that's just what some fans are going to do with their rival. I just tend to try to be honest if not a little harsh because in the end we live in a world where most people make up their own reality so hitting them with the truth hurts more than clowning them.

So because Gus busted with his 5 star talent, it's cool that the new guy isn't getting any.
PS: You forgot to add Bo Nix to your list.

100% true about Gus.
But then you went out and hired someone worse.

Not even a single metric where that’s true. Harsin is the best coach Auburn has ever hired on paper. Will that translate to wins on the field? Who knows yet, but writing him off after 8 months on the job is asinine.

When the barn hired Harsin there was joy in Boise. There were fans offering to drive him to the airport.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

He's done worse than the previous coach at every school he's been the coach of.
Including the previous time he followed Gus.
