Not really sure what to think of him yet. I would like some definite clarification as to what his role was in the GaTech mess. If he had a hand in that fiasco, then i don't think he should be at AU. If he left because he didn't like the way they were handling the situation, then I may have a different opinion.

Rich worked for the NCAA form 01-06 so I think he can handle it.

So why the hell did y'all hire a guy that left GaTech under NCAA investigation?

Maybe he left because he didn't like to be told to look the other way...

This is probably the main topic today at Bama (All we talk about is Auburn) OnLine.

maybe AU like most everyone else had no idea how badly Gtech was handling their situation with the NCAA. I doubt this guy volunteered any info during the interview process with AU as to how badly he screwed up at GATech

Paul Parker was told by the NCAA to tell no one other than the AD or President, which he did. Radakovich went and told Johnson, who in turn told the players. I'm aware of nothing that has shown Parker did anything other than what he was told.

Legally he wouldn't be allowed to right? The NCAA said they put a gag order on schools during a investigation.

Much to Chicken's chagrin (I'm sure) this is the only football message board I visit. Now, don't get me wrong. I love a good midget stripper thread, but for football stuff...this is the place.

I would guess that he wouldn't be allowed to comment on the investigation.. btw did anyone even know Tech was even under the NCAA gun? Also if you are AU do you even suspect Tech was handling the investigation about as badly as they could? Even if you know they were under investigation, you assume they are being cooperative with the NCAA, and not stonewalling and intentionally misleading.

Just found this.

quote:

Interesting aside. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the Georgia Tech compliance director at the time, Paul Parker, left the school in April for another job - in the Auburn compliance department. Parker is listed on the Auburn athletics web site as an associate AD in that department, directly under compliance chief Rich McGlynn.

The NCAA Infractions Committee report said the Georgia Tech compliance director, without naming him, "omitted key information and embellished other information" when he wrote the ACC office seeking guidance on whether the two players should be declared ineligible.

One of the NCAA penalties against Tech requires that the AD, football coach, academic adviser and compliance director attend an NCAA Regional Rules Seminar in 2012. That penalty includes this note: "The compliance coordinator has since left the employ of the institution and will be independently notified of this requirement."

Maybe this is why he has ended up having to take a demotion. Now being supervised under an AD for compliance with significant experience working at the NCAA itself.

If I was AU, I would be on the phone with the NCAA learning exactly what role Parker played in the investigation. If the NCAA gives him anything but a stellar report, I show him the door.

Do you feel like now is a good time for AU to be in the "people heppin'" business?

You know what I just realized? Parker was smacked by the NCAA Infractions Committee due to the information that he provided to the NCAA Eligibility Committee. It seems that what the school provided, in that instance GT, was relied upon by the Eligibility Committee. But the Infractions Committee, after investigating and not just relying upon what the school provided, levied sanctions. Damn.

No, we don't need to be bringing anybody on board with NCAA issues, especially with the NCAA and every national media figure breathing down our necks.
