I could see where someone would rank Spurrier #2 but Miles is 3-0 against Spurrier so I would have to put Miles at #2

I'm sure there are probably a couple UF homers that would hope on board.

I mean Saban hasn't ever won consecutive SEC titles.

You have to take into account attrition in those rankings.

Rolling averages which is a rather good way of predicting outcome (better than most measures) doesn't take attrition into account. The reason is simple: all school's suffer it at about the same statistical level, especially when you're average 4-5 classes together.

The only case for attrition that might be made would be for Tennessee's current roster rank which is probably too high (5th/6th in the SEC this year depending on how you want to number it due to the tie between AUB and UGA) since it's a large enough statistical anomaly to where it matters (CBJ has been here longer than 50% of our roster and his 2nd season hasn't even started - that is how awful Kiffin + Dooley were in terms).

I was agreeing with you. I'm pretty sure LSU has the most players on NFL rosters right now.

ETA: It may be 2nd most.

I'm a fan of Les. No way is he 2. Not by resume, and not in the talent:game day blunder ratio. My one cent.

Nah man, I don't think you can safely say everyone suffers at the same statistical level, even if you are talking the last four years.

Auburn's classes were definitely overrated under Chizik.

It's ridiculous they have Richt ahead of Miles. What the hell has he done to warrant a higher ranking?

They were ranking Chizick that high a few years ago and this high school coach is a carbon copy.

There are always exceptions but for the most part it's about the same at SEC schools. The stats guys don't count it for that reason - it usually isn't a big enough difference statistically to mater although there are some cases, still they don't factor in.

Of course classes can be overrated but that's also why they average and look at multiple classes rather than just one or two. You really need at least 4 to get a decent gauge of talent for any given year. This is why Pinkel is considered such a good coach - he does far more with wayyyyy less than the rest of the SEC.

I'm telling you though Chizik was that awful. So was Dooley (his classes weren't great but they weren't bad either). Beating Bama as well as beating a statistically similar UGA that had a far more seasoned QB and didn't have to adjust to a new system is more than enough to say Gus is a good coach though. It doesn't make Auburn's season any less remarkable but the talent was there. It just wasn't being utilized - Gus used it and found a way to use it in his first season. That's pretty damned good.

Programs are damn close. Difference is coaching. That's the point. Les had every opportunity to win those games. One, his team didn't show up for.

Before this past season, he was on the hot seat and many Missouri fans wanted him fired. Had he won fewer than 9 games this past season he WOULD have been fired

No doubt but even beyond this season, his record combined with Mizzou's pretty damned low recruiting level adds up to an outstanding coach.

Their roster is ranked 37th this year overall.
Five year recruiting rankings:
Missouri 39 (2014) - 43 (2013) - 31 (2012) - 57 (2011) - 21 (2010)

Only program that has less in talent/worse at recruiting is Vandy which is ranked 47 in roster this year.

And Chiz should have been #1 after 2010, right? Gonna wait at least three years to state where Gus falls in the pecking order.
