As I have said before on here, we honestly CAN'T hire anybody as accomplished as Stans

Kansas didnt get a coach as accomplished as Roy Williams
Tennessee didnt get a coach as accomplished as Pearl
Bama didnt get a coach as accomplished as Gottfried
Fla didnt hire someone as accomplished as Lon Kruger

and on and on and on

am to the point where I really believe that we can't find anybody as good as Stans

you have been at this point all along. But many of us disagree with you. Grant didnt turn down Alabama. Fox didnt turn down Georgia

Rollie-freaking-Massimino tried to apply for the State job and LT wouldnt talk to him. We havent had an actual basketball coaching search since the 1980's. You dont know what we can hire.

I want the best for our basketball program

As do I- and Standsbury is not what is best- he is what is solid and consistent. We wont ever be horrible- but we wont ever be great under him. Its time for a change.

quote:

I mean we have money to pay, but our job isn't very appealing

In one breath, you say we are a top half SEC basketball school because of the supposed great job Standsbury has done. Then the next breath you say the job is not very appealing.

Which is it? Because coaches will take jobs at schools that win. Especially if they pay well also. And you also look at cost of living- the State job is actually worth even more than the actual salary.

quote:

What do you think and or expect from our basketball program on a yearly basis that Stans hasn't given us? Its not like he are a top tier SEC basketball program

We are 5th in conference titles, 5th in Tourney titles, 8th in Tourney appearances, and we are one of only 6 SEC teams to make the Final Four.

According to those numbers- we are. And if after 13 years Standsbury has not made us a top half SEC program, then its time to give someone else a chance.

It cant be both ways Bundy- you cant trumpet all the great things you think Stands has done as coach, and then badmouth how bad of a program we are.

I have never heard this from anywhere other than you on SPS, and I highly doubt it is true. If it is it was WAAAAAAYYYY before his national Championship he won at 'Nova.

I HIGHLY DOUBT either of these two coaches would even have enteratined an interview to coach at Mississippi State. Both Bama and Georgia pay TONS more than State and have bigger arenas and facilities.

I agree with you on the cost of living being lower in Starkville. However, the fact that Starkville is a small college town will sway some top coaches who are used to living in big Urban areas, and who's wives dont prefer to live in small towns like Starkville (Ellis Johnson and his wife come to mind)

I think you stated in another thread that in the past 10 years we are 5th in most SEC wins.

As you know, I dont badmouth Stans, that is your job. I am just saying under him we are a middle of the pack SEC school who have made NCAA tournament trips but also been on the bubble more than once. I think 5 or 6 SEC teams should make the NCAA tourney every year. I think we have the potential to make the NCAA tournament every year.

However, YOU are the one who expects us to make the Sweet 16 or better every year.

Do you really think a new coach could put our program on the same level as Kentucky or Florida???? We dont have the resources or national program recognition.

In conclusion, I still would like to see the names of 3 Current College head coaches who would TAKE THE MISSISSIPPI STATE BASKETBALL JOB.

GOOD LUCK on that.

Ellis Johnson left because of Croom. He saw that ship wasnt ever going anywhere so he got the hell out of town. And this comes directly from one of the coaches on staff with him. The wife excuse was their nice way of leaving on good terms.

we will just have to disagree. I find it hilarious that I think alot more of our job than you do.

Let me ask you this- when was the last time we had a tough time hiring a coach for the Big 3? LT picked Crooms over Jimbo Fisher. We could have had fricking Jimbo Fisher as our head coach but LT wanted to make history. shite, LT also didnt take Spurrier's interest seriously when he hired Felker. LT's frick-ups are legendary

It's been a long time since we have had a hard time hiring a good coach.

I think we all know why this hire was made.

I'm not going to lie, Byrne made two good hires IMO. HOWEVER, he isn't AD anymore, and Scott Stricklin is a good 'ol boy who I see being a young LT. I am curous to see how he does with his first hire, which will either be Mullen's replacement or Stans' replacement. Both will be HUGE towards the future of our athletic Dept IMO.

Also, Im still waiting for you to give me 3 coaches names that you would approve that would TAKE our basketball job????

I said this before, but IMO, Stansbury has taken Miss St as far as he can, and I think his time at MSU has ran it's course and he won't have very good years at MSU now. Maybe a Tourney appearance or two, but his time has ran it's course, imo.

Some MSU fans are sayin if he doesn't make the tourney this year he should be fired.

I disagree with this.

As I have mentioned, I just dont believe our job is attractive enough for us to find a high enough candidate to replace Stans.

There is no way to answer that question. You dont know until you try.

But facts are that we have not had a hard time getting interest in our school for the last 25 years- our previous AD just made some terrible choices.

Much like Mullen- I think you would be surprised as to who we could hire.

And I dont see how you can disagree. If we miss out next March- that will be one at large berth in the last 7 years.

We can do better than that. I could do better than that.

The Mullen search had some top notch names like Chris Peterson, Derek Dooley, Dan, and the OC from Oklahoma who just got hired at Indiana.

However that was for a football job in the SEC, the #1 basketball conference in America. The SEC in Basketball is about #4 or 5 at best. I hope you are right, but as I have mentionedn I have TONS less faith in Scott Stricklin than I had in the NINJA Greg Byrne who I consider the best AD in MSU history.

Larry Templeton was as bad as it gets.

No you couldn't your a football coach.

As the son of a HS basketball coach, who has coached in MS for over 30 years its guys like you he always would laugh at. Football coaches who think they know it all when it comes to basketball, and when and if they actually had to coach they would out coached by a basketball guy so bad it would make their heads spin.

I was not a great coach in basketball by any means- but did win AAA North State as an asst...and getting to learn from Duese was a good guy to learn from growing up

It appears State fans enjoy arguing with each other almost as much as Arkansas fans do.
