I would be more than thrilled with just an appearance in the tourney. Year one after the mess we have seen for what feels like eternity, and we make it to the tourney is pretty damn good IMO.

First Round of the Tourney as a 9-12 seed or a deep run in the NIT are my expectations. I would be fine with either. There will be some bumps along the way in the transition from saying we would play uptempo to actually doing it.

Yea, this needed ANOTHER thread. 23 wins and 2nd round is my prediction
Would be happy with just making the tourney and going one and done.

If they go 9-7 in the SEC, then that means State will be 8-8 or worse- no way the West has 3 teams finish 9-7 or better.
And you can count on Bama being at least 9-7...probably 11-5 or 10-6

Finish in the top half of the SEC overall. 23-25 wins regular season. Win a game in the SEC Tourney. Get an NCAA invite for the 31st time. Would be nice to get tourney win #41 while there. Could care less about winning the West to be honest. They do not hang banners for that.

I do, especially if Auburn and LSU bomb again next year. Even if they win 5 or 6 games State, Bama, and Arkansas can all win around 9 or 10 SEC games.
Heck this year Bama won 12, State 9. Ole Miss and Arkansas won 7 and could have easily won 9 give or take 2 bad games.

Maybe its because you haven't won any in 15 years to hang.

Not a Flame, but winning the SEC west should be a goal for Arkansas basketball. It gives you a bye in the SEC tournament and gives you a easier 1st round opponent.

1 Conference tourney championship, 7 NCAA trips > a stupid make believe division title.

No. The goal for Arkansas is to win the Conference title regular season. That is starting out small for a program who has 31 conference crowns.

well of course you do- you think we are going to make the NCAA Tourney every season this time of year.
The West is going to be better than it has been in least 5 years. LSU will be improved and the 4th best team in the West. And Mississippi wont be bad either.
Mark my words- There will not be 3 SEC West teams at 9-7 or better...shite, when is the last time that happened? Its been awhile
**edit**- its only happened once in the last 5 years- 2009

As long as they keep Stans, they will always have double digit losses IMO. They should have gotten rid of him this year. Arkansas was the highest profile job open. Especially with the mid major success we saw.

Sadly, I agree with you Pig. Stands let his window go by without being able to take advantage

I expect no worse than 2nd in the West and a 1st round win.
The SEC is a horrible, horrible basketball conference. A program like Arkansas should NEVER have less then 20 win seasons coming out of this conference.
The talent, coaching and fan support is there. Sustained success.

totally agree- unfortunately we have too many fans like Bundy that think winning an SEC West title in basketball means something
All it does is get you a bye for the SEC Tourney- nothing more

Ive said it many a times on this board. The SEC having divisions in basketball is the dumbest thing ever.
Have a collective regular season standing, 1-12 and give your top 4 teams the bye. Problem solved. If all the teams are from the East or West, so be it.

As I have said before on here, we honestly CAN'T hire anybody as accomplished as Stans, heck I doubt we can even hire a good mid-major coach after seeing Shaka Smart and Gregg Marshall turn down NC State.
Tell me this Coach34/Coonass, you mentioned on SPS a list of candidates including Shaka Smart, Counzo Martin, Gregg Marshall, Stevens, etc from mid-major schools. I am to the point where I really believe that we can't find anybody as good as Stans. I mean we have money to pay, but our job isn't very appealing like Arkansas' and Tennessee's were this year (and look what Tenn. settled for).
I want the best for our basketball program, and I agree that Stansbury has his shortcomings. However, with that said he has done great things for our basketball program, has won consistantly, and recruits the hell out of Mississippi and the Southeast.
Tell me this Coach/Coonass, if we did fire State what would your expectations be for his replacement? Sweet 16 in 4 years or fire him?
What do you think and or expect from our basketball program on a yearly basis that Stans hasn't given us? Its not like he are a top tier SEC basketball program.

I wouldn't call it obsessed, I think I'm more intrigued by you guy's love affair with Mike Anderson. Im anxious to see if some of you fans turn on him if he doesn't live up to expectations after year one.
it'll take 4-5 years before this happens IMO
I think he's a good coach that wins 20 plus games most years... but am not sure he will beat out the other real basketball teams in the SEC... and by that I mostly mean KY and Florida... maybe Tenn if they hire someone solid

I know you guys made a really good hire in Mike Anderson, and most of you guys are VERY optomistic about basketball for the first time in a while. However, with that said, what are you guys' realistic expectations for Arkansas' first season under Mike Anderson.
I think you guys finish 22-10 (9-7) in the SEC and making the first round of the NCAA tournament.
This is my expectation for next year.
