I’ve always found the irony of the 1964 title humorous. Arkansas has a poll title in 1965 if the rules hadn’t changed for that one season. Alabama repeated because of it. Then gets screwed themselves in 1966.

Alabama lost to Texas, which Arkansas beat. Bammers are so defensive when their mythical titles get called out.

Watching the video it looks like the tech player was laying on top of our running back and showing no effort to get up until Carmona gave him a little incentive. He’s just taking care of one of his own.
He also got flagged for protecting one of our runners when he was going out of bounds. He seems to be a team player.

The Grantland rice trophy was bigger and voted on after bowl games. A few of bama titles are grantland rice. You cant have it both ways

Alabama was awarded the National Championship on Nov 30, 1964.
Alabama played Texas on Jan 1, 1965. Over a full month AFTER they were awarded the national championship.
You are counting exhibition games.

There’s nothing mythical about a poll championship. It is the standard from 1936-1991. That being said, I don’t know why people get defensive on seasons like 1964. It’s a split title. The FWAA is a major poll in that era.

I don’t think anyone is having it both ways. Alabama won a major poll title in 1964.

From 1953 forward(when FWAA started), all of Alabama's National Championship claims are either AP or UPI.
Bowl games were exhibition games. Notre Dame wouldn't even play in them until after 1966 when they started counting.
If that trophy would have been "bigger", then Notre Dame would have played bowl games based on it's count, rather than the AP.
