An honest assessment of Kiffin from a UT fan

I do wish that Lane would be a bit more low-key in his beginnings as an SEC coach. I'm not a big fan of giving other teams bulletin board material.
That being said, what he is doing is a big shot in the arm for UT. We have gone from being a proud program to being almost irrelevant in the SEC over the last 5 years. Fulmer got complacent and started losing to Florida and Bama all the time over the past few years.
He has put together a good staff and got a nice recruiting class considering it was assembled in less than 2 months. Will he be successful? I don't know, time will tell. But he is starting to put UT back on the map, and I thank him for that.
Now please bring all the Bammers and LSU fans talking about how he is doomed for certain failure...

that's sad when your program is so low that you'll accept being on the map for the wrong reasons as long as you're just on the map.

alll things considered, he did. hats off to Auburn and Moo St. too...they were in similiar boats and did a pretty good job signing day, imo.

Letting it be known that this years class and players aren't up to standards(thus alienating potential high school coaches),
Telling a kid to keep announcing he is commited to a place he isn't,
Falsely accusing other coaches of cheating,
Pretending to be a recruit on a recruits phone to another school's coach and bragging about it,
Bragging to a veteran coach about knowing the rules when first hired and then getting reprimanded by the SEC office for not knowing the rules,
Getting blasted nationally for this,
does not bode for a bright future for Mr. Lane Kiffin.

I understand while people feel this way.
But I'm tired of losing to the good teams in the SEC. So if Kiffin brings the program to where it should be, I certainly don't mind if he pisses off a few rival fans/coaches in the process.
Last time I checked Saban and Meyer aren't regarded as the nicest guys...and they seem to be doing pretty well.

Wasn't Tenn in the SECCG last year?

I understand about bringing back excitement. Is this the kind of excitement that you want, though. The guys hasn't accomplished anything as a head coach nor has he blown a whistle in practice at UT, yet.
I think that you have three assistants in Monte, Ed O, and the guy from Stl Rams that are far more qualified than Lane to be your head coach.
You should be celebrating a nice close to your reruiting class today. Instead, the media and everyone interested in college football is talking another Lane blunder.
He needs to settle down until he accomplishes something on the field in the toughest conference in the country. UT is not USC in the Pac-10.
This is not SEC football. Maybe USC punked other Pac-10 schools, but this is different. The coaches hand-shake will be interesting after your conference games next season.
Good luck to you and your team. The conference is better when the traditional programs are strong.

No it was 2 years ago, and we had to back in by everyone else in the East losing a couple more games.
Fulmer had a losing record in the SEC over the last 5 years.
Fulmer had a losing record against top 25 teams in the last 5 years.
Fulmer had losing seasons 2 of the last 4 years.
Fulmer lost 5 of his last 6 games against Florida and Bama.
I don't think backing into 1 SECCG (and losing, by the way) removes our recent "irrelevant" status

Blood,as a Bama fan,he's your coach and I am not going to speak badly of him. But I will say this,CUM and the other coaches in the SEC who feel dissed will have long memories. If the gators can hang 60 on you they will. Just ask Ga.

so the bottom line for you is LK brings the change you can believe in?

The bottom line is we needed a change. We were formerly a proud program and fell from that status.
As I have said, I honestly don't know how Kiffin will do. His head coaching ability is certainly an unknown quantity, I'm not going to try and argue that.
But yes, I am excited about the energy he is bringing to Knoxville.

And his actions so far have made you proud?

Please tell me why you guys "believe" in Lane Kiffin so much???
Lay down his track record for me. All I hear is that he has put together a staff full of "great recruiters".
He put together a staff because without experienced, knowledgable assistants, he'd be lost. He may get credit, but it'll be Ed O, Monte, and Stl. Rams guy that do the coaching. If you're lucky.
Lane makes Al Davis seem like the victim.

Kiffin fired by Al Davis, Kiffin will get fired by UT, Kiffin takes job as HC at Hargrave Military Academy, starts winning and Bama fans claim his success is the resultant of coaching Sabans players.

You people never listen. I never said I "believe" in Kiffin, I said I was excited by his energy. Big difference there.
I also never claimed that my excitement was because of his track record.
Siiigghh....please see above posts.
