We will never be able to purely recruit blue-chip depth like some others do. We need blue chip starters, then develop the players that are one notch below that over time to have quality depth...

I think this is biggest key to winning here...

I agree. I also think a saban type of coach would be able to convince the in state talent to stay home. I know there are 3 major D-1 schools in MS but he could do it. LSU had a good program(except early to mid 90s ) and what changed was we started locking down the in state talent. Dinardo started it and saban and miles have kept it going. It's tough though when y'all are competing with LSU, Bama,Fl,Tenn,UGA every year. Unless they are just die hard fans of either school they are gone.

UK? Hell....I remember Tim Couch when he was at UK...Spurrier hung 70+ on them,

And?

Those teams weren't all that good. Certainly not the best we've had in recent times. Couch being on them doesn't change that.

as the OP, I have to say reading the posts I am now leaning towards Ole Miss over MSU. Some good posts, Ole Miss needs West to fall (things go in cycles so maybe another bama probation etc) and Ole Miss can upset LSU at times (01 good example) so from the 10-3 years of a few years ago to a trip to Atlanta is feasible, though I admit not probable in next 5-10 years.

Kentucky. Too tough for OM and MSU to make it out of the West. If UK puts together a good team, it has a shot. Not saying it's likely, just that UK's odds are better than the others'.

State is currently on the best track to do it. We are building quality depth, which is something that the other three schools don't have. We need to keep doing what we're doing and have one really good year and take that momentum and follow it up with a hell of a recruiting class and just keep moving up.

Hugh Freeze will be eaten alive by the SEC, he was coaching girls high school basketball not too long ago.

Dan Mullen hasn't beat a single team in the West outside of OM but if Auburn didn't buy Cam the Dawgs may have won the west in '10. They aren't getting a Cam anytime soon.

Right now the West is definitely too strong and OM is at the bottom. Once the cycle of power shifts back to the East (which we all know will happen sooner or later) OM will finally have rebuilt itself while the other schools begin trending downward
