Fans are not the concern for the direction this is heading. Gambling makes anyone a fan of any team. Look at who is advertising on sports shows. We are still early stages, but it’s happening. An entire generation is being manipulated to think sports betting is cool and hip and smart. The more big games, the more $$$ that gets better. The house eventually always wins at scale. And they win a lot.

That is solid perspective. It's why sports gambling was taboo so long.

It's like the Marvel and Star Wars movies. They don't know (or care) when to stop, they just want money.

It’s in the early stages here, but we are not the center of the universe. We have plenty of examples ahead of us to look at
In places like England for one example, gambling on sports is a centuries old tradition. Placing a bet on a game there is completely normal and mundane and just part of being a regular Joe Schmoe sports fan.
It’s been normal since the 1700’s, and yet England has created the single most popular sports league on planet Earth , the Premier League, and it’s not even close. And the odds and books are advertised everywhere including on the team jerseys
I can guarantee you that the day Georgia and auburn played at Piedmont park and their stupid bird died that folks watching from the sidelines had some bets going too. Gambling will always be part of sports. It’s just human nature
What killed college football isn’t gambling it was opening the door for a playoff that was obviously always going to expand and expand until the regular season was diluted combined with conference expansion and most importantly, the rotten disaster of NIL (which I believe you were a huge proponent of on here)

The playoffs mean more games. The more games, the more TV has commercials. The more commercials, the more money TV makes. The more commercials, the more that gambling sites advertise. The more gambling sites advertise, the more people bet. And it grows until it can’t.

The difference these days is player prop bets. Player prop bets are the devil.

This is dumb.
You can bet on any and every sport. And they’re not the ones dying. Hell, with Trumps now federally protected Kalshi workaround , you can bet on the weather or the price of toilet paper or anything under the sun
What killed college football is this: (and please check off each one that you supported, especially the last one)
-the 4- team playoff
-the human playoff committee nobody asked for
-conference expansion
-NIL
All of that laid the foundation. We’re at 24 now in stage 5 cancer because :
-the boosters writing crazy checks want a participation trophy for making a fake playoff
-the coaches want better job security for making a fake playoff
-the networks want more money off a fake playoff
They think we’re gold fish.
