Gumpettes are the only SEC softball team to win it all, correct?
Posted on 5/31/14 at 9:30 pm to UFownstSECsince1950
Correct.
I think Bama year before last and Michigan a decade or so ago are the only schools east of the Mississippi to win a CWS.

Damn
PAC dominated for decades
24 of 32 WCWS winners came from the PAC (75%)
Of the remaining 8
2 were CA schools (Cal State and Fresno State)
2 were Texas A&M (1983 and 1987)
2 were Oklahoma (2000 and 2013)
1 was Michigan (2005)
1 was Alabama (2012)
From 1982 to 2002 this was the SEC's history (21 seasons)
1997 South Carolina finished in 7th place
2000 Alabama finished in 5th place
2001 LSU finished in 3rd place
From 2003 to present this has been the SEC (12 seasons)
2003 Alabama (7th)
2004 LSU (3rd)
2005 Tennessee (3rd) + Alabama (5th)
2006 Tennessee (3rd) + Alabama (7th)
2007 Tennessee (RU)
2008 Alabama (3rd) + Florida (3rd)
2009 Florida (RU) + Alabama (3rd) + Georgia (3rd)
2010 Georgia (3rd) + Tennessee (3rd) + Florida (5th)
2011 Florida (RU) + Alabama (3rd)
2012 Alabama (NC) + LSU (5th) + Tennessee (7th)
2013 Tennessee (RU) + Florida (5th)
2014 Alabama (at least 3rd) + Florida (at least 3rd) + Kentucky (5th)
SEC has made great strides the past decade or so and with just 13 teams (Vanderbilt has no team) here is the list of current SEC schools who have not been to the WCWS
Arkansas
Auburn
Ole Miss
MS State

Awesome stats
Tim Walton has really done great since he has been at UF, especially these last 5 years. I'd love for the Lady Gators to finally get over the hump this year. Gymnastics team deserved it, and now this softball team deserves it as well.

What I really love about the SEC is they do it with depth. In just about any sport the SEC can go 6 deep when most conferences drop off after 2 or maybe 3. Look at the big team sports and SEC will have at least half of the conference with Final Four or Elite Eight type appearances
Football = pretty much everybody has a Natty
M Basketball = 3 have NC's, 3 have FF's, and more have Elite Eights
W Basketball = 8 have FF's and several more have Elite Eights
Baseball = Everybody but UK has been to a CWS, and UK has gotten close
Softball = Only 4 SEC teams that play have failed to make a WCWS
Gymnastics = 3 with NC's and several more with Super Six standings
(UK may not have made SS, but Jenny Hanson won all around 3 years straight in early 90's)

SEC softball before 1997 did not exist.

Volleyball and Soccer are the team sports we fall apart it. ONE SEC national champion between them.
Florida is the only team worth a d_mn in College Soccer and Volleyball and they only won their Soccer Natty because Abby Wambach was in gear that one year. Mizzou and Tennessee VB are also legit but that's about it (though UT is in a nasty slump).

It did in a technically sense. South Carolina added softball before even being an SEC team and played the Carolina colleges until 1997. Predictably the dominated the brand new baby SEC programs the first year but their grip steadily slipped to the present.

Good to see the team who knocked us out also knocked UK out

I don't care who we play, but it makes absolutely zero sense to seed teams and the switch 1 team to another bracket, thus stealing the advantage that was given by seeding in the first place.
Basically they gave Florida the advantage, just for " different" games sake, which is stupid.

Teams were playing, just not as SEC teams, much like SEC teams UK and USC play men's soccer - in CUSA - even tho the SEC does not have Men's Soccer. South Carolina played in the 1983 WCWS as an IND and again in 1989 as a Metro member. They played in the 1997 WCWS as a ESC member. Texas A&M (SWC and B12) and Missouri (Big 8 and Big 12) as TAMU won it all in 1983.
