You, sir, are the dumbass!!! They set the line to try and get equal money bet on both sides of said line. They give 2 shits less about who they think will actually win the game.

You sir, are incorrect. The "Opening Line" is not established to get equal bets from both sides. The "Opening Line" is the oddsmakers true opinion of the result of the game. After the "Opening Line" is established the public bets it up or down. The first line is called the "Opening Line" for a reason. It is the true evaluation of the results of the game by professional handicappers. The public then agree or disagree with the "Opening Line" and push it up or down based on the disparity of the amount of money wagered on the teams. Example: If more money is bet on Clemson the line will move more in favor of a Clemson win. What you fail to recognize is the "Openeing Line" is the handicappers real opinion of who will win and by how much. After that computers adjust the line purely based on equalizing the amount of money bet on the game. The objective is to manipulate the line to get equal amounts of money wagered on both teams guaranteeing the house a profit from the game. Sports Books do NOT want to gamble. They want 50% to bet one side and 50% to bet the other. When they can't achieve that objective they "Lay-Off" their lopsided bets to other bookmakers.

Both Alabama and Georgia were favored to win their respective Play Off Games from the outset established by the "Opening Lines" and so far the betting public agrees with the handicappers.
